Welcome to dickblick
This hair comes from the Siberian and Manchurian Sable, better known under the name of Kolinsky. It is a small animal that lives in the coldest areas of these regions, giving it a very strong and dense hair, an ideal hair for watercolor. It has fantastic spring, snap, and color holding ability.
This watercolor brush has been carefully tested for professional designers and retouchers. It has a seamless nickel-plated brass ferrule, a short black polished handle, and a beige tip.

Comments about Raphaël Kolinsky Red Sable Extra Pointed Round Series 8408:
I use these brushes both for botanicals and looser watercolors. The point is incredible and the brushes versatile enough that I can use a #6 for almost anything but washes.

Great sharp tips. I recommend them them especially to watercolorists who need detail.

The long points on these brushes, I have sizes 0,1,2,3,4 &6 offer exceptional control and ease in work. I have tried other high end pointed rounds and these out preform all of them.
Still getting used to it
from Clermont, FL
I bought the size 7 round because I read that Queen Victoria used that size almost exclusively. I figured that the queen could have had any brush in the world, so I'll go with her choice. The brush definitely does hold a lot of paint. And the point is very springy - so much so that sometimes it sprays tiny dots of paint where they're not wanted. I'm assuming I'll conquer this problem with a little practice with the brush.
Fine detail work is no problem
Holds a great amount of paint. Keeps its point. Really fine details are easy with this brush

I generally love Raphael brushes the most, but these were a new item number for me and not quite what I hoped for. I do miniature work and thought the size zero would work but they are much bigger than I work with. I will only use them for finishing varnish work so for that reason I'm disappointed. WISH you carried the 8400 line for miniatures, I'd buy a lot!!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Really great brushes!
I'm relatively new to watercolor so I haven't tried that many higher quality brushes, but I can't see it getting much better. So far they hold their point really well and hold the paint much longer than my other brushes. I like to work tight so these have made a big difference in my work. If you like detail, these are a great choice.
Very nice and versatile brushes

I love that these have an extra pointed tip, allowing for a fine line but still holding a lot of paint in the belly. I also use these with liquid ink, and they work well (just clean them good before storing. Because they have the extra point, you can use them in place of a smaller brush for details, so less switching between brushes.
My Favorite Brush
from Franklin, NC
I paint small leaves and flowers so fine, even lines are essential. This brush holds such a good point and so much paint that I can continue without replenishing for an amazingly long time with excellent results.
Very nice brush.

This is my first time to own this brush--it is very nice. I heard about this brush at the IAMPETH Convention I attended in Franklin, Tennessee.
