Encaustic paints have recently achieved popularity as an alternative to oil and acrylic paints. A very spontaneous and versatile medium, encaustics can be modeled, layered, sculpted, textured, and even combined with collage materials. No drying time is required.
The fine quality and exquisite visual properties of R&F Encaustic Paints are owed to the dedicated labor process. R&F carefully mixes pigment, pure beeswax, and damar resin. Each color is heavily pigmented and carefully milled. Because no solvents are used, many health hazards associated with other art materials are eliminated.
The beeswax contained in R&F Encaustic Paints makes them impervious to moisture, and thus highly durable. Over time, your art retains all the freshness of a newly finished work.
Encaustics are applied molten with a brush and then fused into the painting with a heat source. It is best to use encaustic paints on a rigid and absorbent surface.
Work done with encaustics does not need to be varnished or protected by glass. A mild buffing with a soft cloth will bring the surface to a beautiful luster.

Comments about R&F Encaustic Paints:
So much pigment,so many colors and though they are pricey the R&F lasts . I use locally produced beeswax with the R&F and I am very pleased with, and often surprised by the results. I love working with encaustic, crayon and wax.

Fantastic art form -- ancient and modern
By Maeve Ann
from Fox River Grove, Il
Started in encaustics in the mid 60's. Then I had to make my own encaustics -- they were not available any other way. Buying them now is a real treat and their quality is the best. I know the old art of making encaustics, but love being spoiled with the new art of encaustics.

Range of colors

I love these waxes. The colors are beautiful and I can get great mixes. The only drawback is once I remove the label, it order to melt, I have a hard time identifying the color.
Excellent Encaustic Medium
By Mrs J
The color melts evenly and does not separate out and need to be continually stirred like my homemade attempts. The color is bright, bold, and mixes well with other encaustic colors as needed. My high school students are loving using this product!
R & F blocks are better than tins
from perrysburg ohio
R & F encaustic paints are easier to use than the other encaustic paint in tins; you have to heat the entire tin to use, thus wasting expensive paint. You just cut off what you need with R & F....definitely the most accessible. R & F also has a wide range of rich colors. Indian Yellow is a must have!
from Seattle WA
You just can't go wrong with R & F pigments when producing professional encaustic paintings. The highly concentrated color is outstanding!
