I ordered the Magenta, Lemon Yellow and Turquoise Procion MX dyes to do tie dye with 4-6 yr olds at an art camp! I love them because they are easy to mix and use, especially with younger children. The colors start vibrant and remain that way after dozens of washes. This is one of the most fun ways to teach the children to mix primary colors to make secondary ones. No matter what they do, the end result always delights them!

I used it to tie dye shirts for 2 classes and these were the best looking shirts that I have seen come from someone that had done this at home. I used the product to breathe life into my existing wardrobe. So, I went to the website and followed instructions for Full Immersion Dyeing (over-dyeing). I'd purchased a couple sweaters and shorts on sale in colors I didn't care for. I did use Rit Color Remover to start with the most neutral base possible. Note that the Scarlett is really an orange/coral. That's what I wanted and purchased it based on another review, but you'd be sorely disappointed if you expect anything near red. Stick to Fire Engine Red for true red. I expected the Cobalt to be closer to a Royal Blue but it was more like a very dark teal/blue. It was quite pretty but just not what I was expecting. Anyway, that's part of the fun and if you want to be sure you can test-dye swatches. Also, this works great on Modal. I thought I could only use with natural plant-based fibers but Modal turned out wonderfully as well.

I have used DICKBLICK on numerous occaisions and find the web site easy to use, prices competitive and shipping right on target. These dyes for 100% cotton/natural fabrics are the only ones I use for tie-dying.

The colors of the fabric that were obtained by these dyes were rich (reds were vibrant). Anyone using these dyes should follow all the saftey rules (wearing a mask) and be sure everything is covered (clothes especially) when using these dyes.

I use these dyes to tie-dye shirts, sweatpants, towels, virtually anything white. It is recommended that you use 100% cotton but I have experimented quite a bit with cotton/poly blends and find as much success with them, as well.

I have not attempted dying without pre-soaking items in their soda ash. I would rather not try it that way, either; I am very happy with the outcome each and every time.

If you are doing large groups of students and/or kids, the kits, both Jacquard and Tulip work wonderfully, as well. Tulips major downfall is their large kit lacks color labels, so it is a guessing game as to which color is in which bag.

Was my first experience using a "red" die, usually stick with the pinks and fuschias. I used scarlet and it was a bit more orange than I would have liked. Just good food for thought for the next time I'm looking to find a red that is red!
