More IS better!

Comments about Prismacolor Turquoise Pencil Sets:
Having a set of mostly H PrismaColor Turquoise pencils was great, but as my sketching classes continued, I quickly realized I needed many more B pencils. Blick to the rescue!I order these and in just a few days was able to complete a sketch that I'm extremely pleased with and hoping to enter in a show. Thanks DickBlick!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Sturdy and reliable pencils
from Siloam Springs, AR
These pencils work really well for me. I use them for various art projects in college. I used a 2B until it was basically gone on a still-life. They are sturdy and don't break easily; so far the tip has never broken off as I was drawing.

Were great in the past... no longer
from Camarillo, CA
I ordered a couple hundred pencils for a class. I was going to rely on 2H. Some of the 2H pencils had parentheses and a number--forget what number. The ones that had this behaved like 2B or 3B pencils—very dark, smeared etc.. The ones that did not have this extra mark were inconsistent. Some behaved like a 2H (fairly hard/light) but about half behaved like an HB or 2B. In addition about 5% of the stock was warped, making them unusable. I just wrote a review of the Prismacolor colored pencils. They used to be great too and now they're just awful. What happened to this company?

My 6H pencil, which is supposed to be the lightest, was the darkest! I'm a newbie with pencils, but I'm sure some of the others were wrong too. I still have a good selection of pencils, I just have no idea which one I'm really using. The pencils still work great, but it's a bit confusing.

If you just need some pencils generally, these are okay -- but I bought them mistakenly thinking they'd be good for fine art and careful detail work, as I've generally been pleased with my Prismacolor Verithin Colored Pencils. But, they're not. They're grainy and scratchy and don't lay down very smooth. A step above a non-art pencil, but not a big step. In working on a drawing that's utilized mostly Derwent pencils, the one section I did with the Prismacolors stands out to me like a sore thumb. It lacks a comparable smoothness in the shading, and that's coming from someone who's occasionally frustrated with even the Derwents. I now realize I had it pretty good with the Derwents. I'm trying a couple new brands soon to see which is best. I won't buy this brand again.
Good but a packing error
Even though these pencils are just what I need right now I got two 3B's and no 2B. For time reasons I can't send it back for an exchange but do keep that in mind before ordering. I noticed someone else had the same issue.

Very, very disappointed!
I ordered a sets and some plus individual pencils and I'm very disappointed. The complete set pencils cracked lead when sharpened. The lead is over the center and you can see the wood broke when you open the box for the first time. This pencils no has difference in grade between H to 9B so now I have 12 pencil made in Mexico with the same grade! when compared with the same grade ex. Mexican 8B vs 8B made in USA you can see a huge diference in tone. In the same order I bought a 150 pencil color to gift my wife with it and now I'm very preocuped with the quality of this Prismacolor Premier made in Mexico. In my case and if we take in consideration the taxes that I page to import, it is imposible to send back, so I lost money and I don't have the professional material that I requested.
Quality Control Problems
By Jerry In NC
from Spring Lake, NC
I ordered two sets of the sketching pencils and they disappointed. Two pencils sported cracked lead and could barely be sharpened. One tin contained two 2H's and no 2B. Even the inserts are flimsy and the pencils ill-fitting.A company that takes pride in its products would have never allowed these tins to reach a consumer.I will go back to using Faber-Castells. They have yet to disappoint.

Smooth medium soft pencils
from Sedona, AZ
This pencil is smooth, and about medium compared to other companies. Creta Color is much softer, HB compares with 2B in Prismacolor Turquoise, and Stadtler is much harder for the same hardness rating. Prismacolor is about in the middle and goes on well, is reliable in creating clear values. It looks very good on all papers I have tried, Strathmore 400 Drawing paper, Mitiennes, and Canson White Drawing Paper.

I use the product for all types of drawing from children's portraits to lanscapes. They can be difficult to sharpen if you don't have a really good sharpener, but this does not detract from their use.
