This permanent fixative is non-yellowing and fast drying. It is suitable for use on colored pencil artwork only. This fixative is not workable.
Note — Do not use on pastel or charcoal drawings as this fixative may alter the artwork.

Comments about Prismacolor Fixative:
this fixative seemed to brighten rather than dull the color when used on fluid acrylic and pastel..The odor was not as bad as many fixatives.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Charcoal and Pastel (Stablio)
I use this for charcoal and waterbased pastels. If the artwork is not completely covered in whatever medium you will see stains that look like oil spots in the unmarked areas. Try a test page and make completely dark areas with your charcoal or waterbased pastel and you will see this in all uncolored areas. Also you have to spray it uniformly, allow it to dry and reapply it if desired. It has worked well for me for 5 yrs and I just finished and applied it to another piece yesterday. I DO NOT KNOW IF IT WORKS ON OIL BASED PASTELS!

Using it for years now!

I use the gloss fixative all the time for my pencil artworks, but mainly for my marker artworks - it leaves a nice gloss finish. If you spray indoors, be sure to crack a window! Haven't tried more expensive fixatives, mainly due to the 'expensive' bit, but this has pretty much never failed. I do know that some yellowing can occur after long-term, but I'm not sure if it's the fixative, but the markers (as it's more of a yellow edge/bleed of the markered area)

Horrible for pastels
from Cincinnati, OH
This is horrible for pastels. I do a lot of pastel portrait drawings and I needed a fixative so that the customers wouldnt smear them. THIS TOTALLY RUINED A DRAWING I HAD SPENT HOURS WORKING ON. I know how to apply fixative and I know exactly how to spray it. This fixative, one, darkened the colors dramatically and made them super dull, two (and the WORST), it leaves dots ALL OVER THE DRAWING. Its horrible. DONT EVER USE IT. I love prismacolor brand products but this is HORRIBLE.

I use this product very carefully. I wear a filtered breathing mask when spraying because of the powerful fumes. Before I spray my work, I shake the can for at least a few minutes before application. I apply a light coat with a minimum distance of twelve inches from the surface of any work. A little bit goes a long way, so I do not load up the surface with one coat as this may damage the work. This product works best in warmer temperatures. I have done this successfully and consistently with: charcoal, graphite, Conte crayon, Nu-Pastels, washes and watercolors.

Works great on Pencil
from new york
I don't know the reasons for most of the bad reviews here but I used this on my pencil drawings and it works absolutely perfectly.

I have been using this product regularly for several weeks. I am a cartoonist and work in colored pencil, specifically Prismacolor pencils and art stix. I settled on this product primarily because it was recommended by colored pencil artist, Gary Greene, in a book I recently bought. I have found it to be a dependable product, worthy of the Prismacolor name brand. (It is important to note that while the can says it can be used for pastel and charcoal, as well as pencil, the Blick website says the product is exclusively for colored pencil art). I have used the matte final fixative and have had excellent results with my colored pencil art. This is a good product if used correctly.

Awful. Deeply Regret the 2 purchases
I bought the full set of color pencils and Nupastels -Prismacolor. Bought the two fixatives - gloss and matt- has ruined my work on each occassion. Even though followed ALL instructions, discussed with peer group advisors and used as advised. I regret the purchases.Money wasted apart, but the hours of work that I feel really badly about -the dismay and disheartening by the destruction caused.
