Here's a Blick best seller at a great price! The Ebony Pencil has long been the artist's favorite for sketching, drawing, and layout, with its thick, black, satiny-smooth graphite lead.

I purchased these as a gift for a friend who does a lot of drawing. She normally gets them in a two pack and when I found them on Blick in the 12 pack at such a great price I could not resist. She was overwhelmed and has raved at the quality of the pencils and her enjoyment of drawing with them.

Oh so soft

Great pencil for sketching designs onto dry clay; the soft intense black allows the artist to use a very light touch thereby not making an indentation.

Best Drawing Pencils!
By Art Teacher
These are my favorite drawing pencils. I've used them for years and buy them for my students as well. Great pencils that are not easy to find in bulk so I am so glad that Blick offers the 12 packs. Great quality.

Most versatile pencil

I have been working as an art instuctor for 31 years. This is the pencil I always come back to.It is great for teaching gradation because using more or less pressure you can shade from light to dark. It's softness makes for a pleasing aesthetic experience besides.

For sketches, layouts and finished work, I get very smooth shading transitions with minimal rubbing and fussing - no graininess. The quality is fine - I noticed no problems with the lead breaking during sharpening etc. After reading other reviews, mainly those comments about the differences between these and their earlier versions (Sanford) I have to agree these are a bit different. Not necessarily worse, but different. I would not even have noticed the differences unless I had tested them side by side. I thought the Prismacolors were noticeably smoother, but did not go to jet black, even with a lot of pressure. I got a nice range of shading from very light to a deep charcoal grey. Not jet black, but black enough for my purposes. The Sanford pencils are jet black, but I thought they felt a little grainier. I attached a little test photo, but I don't know if it really captures the subtle differences. Overall, very nice and smooth pencils, but not quite as black as the Sanfords.

For our drawing and design/color studios, students get the opportunity to work with the Prismacolor Ebony Pencils. They are well worth the value and quality, and the students produce great work with this medium. We have been using this product for quite a while in our studios, and it is always the request of professors to keep them in stock. Good work!
