The Princeton Velvetouch is more than a new brush, it is next-generation technology!
Containing a blend of luxurious NextGen synthetic filaments, Princeton Velvetouch Series 3950 Synthetic Brushes are the ultimate mixed media tool for watercolors, acrylics, and oil paints. The Velvetouch line includes a full range of traditional shapes, plus specialty brushes such as long rounds with exceptionally sharp points, oval mops, script liners, and spotters for precise painting and maximum color control.
The NextGen synthetic filament in Velvetouch brushes is the result of seven years of research and development by Naohide Takamoto, a fifth-generation brushmaker and the grandson of the inventor of Taklon, the first artist-grade synthetic brush hair. Takamoto continues to dedicate himself to the development of synthetics that outperform their natural hair equivalents.
Every Princeton Velvetouch Series 3950 Synthetic Brush has a soft-finish wood handle to complement the enhanced performance and experience of the Velvetouch filaments, resulting in a brush that feels as good in the hand as it does when applying paint to paper, canvas, and other surfaces.
The Princeton Velvetouch Filbert is shaped like an oval at the tip and tapered to a chisel edge. The shape of the Filbert makes it useful for basecoating round or curved areas, for applying washes, and for painting flower strokes.
The Princeton Velvetouch Filbert Grainer produces a repetitive pattern of thin lines. The head of the Filbert Grainer is curved, which offers a more precisely tapered finish to the stroke than a Flat Grainer or a Fan brush. It creates the fine-feathered structure of a bird’s feathers or tufts of animal fur with ease.
The Princeton Velvetouch Long Round is tapered to provide precision and fine detail, whereas the full body provides a controlled release of color. The differences between a Long Round and a traditional Round are the shape of the belly, the gradual taper, and the length of the hair.
Mini Angled Spotter
The Princeton Velvetouch Angled Spotter has a handle that is specifically designed for working on hard-to-each areas. It also provides the ultimate in precision for creating fine details.
Mini Liner and Liner brushes
The Princeton Velvetouch Mini Liner is narrower than a Round with a fine point. The Mini Liner paints delicate work such as outlines, small details, lettering, and long, continuous lines.
The Mini Mop is a soft, absorbent brush used for blending and softening layers of color.
The Oval Mop is a brush with innovative synthetic hair that is crimped to mimic the shape and movement of natural hair. This brush is recommended for softening and blending, as well as varnishing and decoupage because it shows minimal brushstrokes.
The Princeton Velvetouch Round is a classic painting brush used for everything from flora and still life to portraits and landscapes. Larger rounds can lay in large areas of color and stroke specific shapes, whereas smaller rounds are used for details.
Script Liner Brushes
The Princeton Vevetouch Script Liner is a long-haired brush that is narrow and pointed with a short handle and round ferrule. It provides large color-carrying capacity and is used for delicate lettering, highlighting, outlining, and long continuous strokes.
Short Liner Brushes
The Princeton Velvetouch Short Liner is smaller than a traditional liner with a tapered point, which can be used for fine details and outlines.
The Princeton Velvetouch Spotter is a Round brush with shorter, tighter hair. The shorter hair has less flex than the Round for accurate detail.
Velvetouch Brushes, Set of 4
This set includes a Round 4, Long Round 8, Angle Shader 3/8", and a Wash 3/4", all with short handles.
The Willow Blender is composed of both natural and synthetic filaments, allowing paint to distribute evenly through the bristles, if desired, or to sit on top of them. It can be used to drybrush or stipple and create fur, foliage, trees, bushes, clouds, and flowers.
Brush sizes — The length and width of a brush of a given shape and size may vary by manufacturer as brush sizes are not standardized. Since fine art brushes are handmade, expect some variation even among brushes from within a single brush line.

Velvetouch brushes are a delight!
from Hutto, TX
Comments about Princeton Velvetouch Series 3950 Brushes:
This set is a great way to to try out this new line from Princeton. Velvetouch brushes are made for fluid/waterbased media. So far, I've used them with watercolors. I'll be trying them with fluid acrylics next. These are great all-around brushes, feel really nice in the hand, and give an amazing amount of control over paint application. They are a bit stiffer (a "medium" synthetic rather than "soft") than some synthetics made specifically for watercolor, but work well on watercolor/cold press paper. So far, I've only had one problem - they rough up cheap paper, especially when very wet, but I only use cheap paper for practice work. On quality paper, Velvetouch brushes are smooth and crisp. I'll be adding to my collection of these. I also tried one of the short-handled flat shaders (#6 I think). The control and precision in shading is the best I've found since starting up my painting again four years ago. Definitely a great value!

Good Syntheitc Brushes
By Jean Lurssen
from Sausalito, CA
I have three of these brushes and still fall back on using them even though I have a number of kolinsky brushes. They are among the best synthetic brushes. They hold a lot of water and the rounds have nice points. I have used the 2" flat as a wash brush for many years. It works better on hot-pressed paper than my kolinsky brush.

Comments about Princeton Velvetouch Oval Mop Brush:
This brush is perfect for wetting backgrounds with water, it holds lots and lots of water!

I use these for oil painting and recommend them to my students. They are soft and cover the canvas well. They clean up well with turpentine or alcohol and hold their shape. The price is very reasonable too. I like to use flats best. Wish they came in larger sizes.
Am happy with these so far
from muldrow, ok
The metal piece seems tight and not coming loose because they are crimping them deeper. Most other brushes they work loose. I like that about them.

I paint with angled brushes
from San Antonio, TX
Comments about Princeton Velvetouch Angular Shader Brushes:
I paint with small angled brushes as they give me crisp edges and line work. I like this brush very much as it also does the double duty of shading well and holding paint.

Comments about Princeton Velvetouch Spotter Brush:
I do work on very small scale figure models and this type of tool is absolutely indispensable. Washes us and re-uses great. Just take good care of your brushes and they will continue to serve you well.
