This unusual "sword" shape is excellent for precise control of fine lines and curves of varying widths.

Princeton’s new series of synthetic hair brushes features an extra degree of stiffness to move and control color. Unlike natural bristles, which become soft and distorted when used in a water based medium, the bristles on these brushes retain their shape and stiffness.

Each brush features two shades of hair, seamless gold colored ferrules, and a Velvetouch handle for excellent grip and control. They can be used with heavier acrylic paints as well as oil and water based oil colors.

Note — Brush sizes are not standardized. The length and width of a brush of a given shape and size varies considerably by manufacturer. Since fine art brushes are handmade, expect some variation even among brushes from a given manufacturer.

I was prejudiced for years when it came to "synthetics" and wouldn't ever consider using one probably because I considered myself a purist when it came to brushes. Since reading some of the recent reviews exhalting the praises of these synthetics, I decided to go for my onions and bought a few. Whoa!!! One word that; to me, says it all: "workhorse". These badboys don't die. I realize now how foolish I've been for years for not: at least, giving them a try. Sure, there are subtle differences in the handling and responsiveness but I'd now take a synthetic brush any day over natural brushes when it comes to some of the new space-age paints and even traditional enamels.

Ferrule rusted

I love this brush but after about 20 uses there is a problem. The bristles are still perfect but the ferrule is rusting on the inside and rust comes down the bristles and onto my canvas when the bristles are moistened. None of my other umbria brushes have this problem. I'm very sad to have to retire this brush so soon.

A beautifully designed brush. Currently being used with watercolor. Handles are straight as an arrow. Exterior handle finish is flawless with a good grip and soft to the touch. The brush filament is superb, crisp, sharp. Just a pleasure to use every day.
