Princeton has done it again, offering its softest and thirstiest synthetic ever!
Almost 20 years ago, Princeton gave artists a synthetic version of Sable that was almost the equal of fine Kolinsky. Today, it's still the standard for performance among its rivals. When Princeton set out to create a synthetic version of Squirrel, the company developed a brush that may actually outperform the natural version.
Neptune is Princeton's thirstiest brush ever, delivering oceans of color to the sheet. Featuring the latest synthetic fiber technology, the Neptune's multiple-diameter filaments are configured to replicate the smooth feel of natural Squirrel, with enhanced snap and resilient strength. Experts in natural hair have been incredulous that the Neptune brush hair is actually synthetic.
Princeton is proud to offer Neptune in a beautiful range of shapes that includes hand-tied Mottlers and Quills. The beautiful sea glass handles of the Aquarelle brushes are the signature of the line.
Neptune Pro Series Brushes, Set of 4
This set includes four Neptune brushes, one each of Aquarelle 3/4", Round 4, Round 12, and Oval Wash 1/2".
Brush sizes — The length and width of a brush of a given shape and size may vary by manufacturer as brush sizes are not standardized. Since fine art brushes are handmade, expect some variation even among brushes from within a single brush line.

Great Price, Great Brush
from Huntington Beach
Comments about Princeton Neptune Synthetic Squirrel Brushes:
I use this for watercolor, and it works wonderfully. A sharp tip, but not so sharp that I would use for inking. (But i'm an elitist when it comes to inking with brushes!) Very nice for painting though. And on a sale, these are REALLY nice brushes for that price.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this synthetic squirrel quill in the largest size, 8, to replace a French squirrel quill lost in the field. It has a bit more spring than the natural squirrel, which is good in a large brush. It holds an abundance of water and retains a beautiful point. I have been using it for figure painting and I can complete a figure and add detail with the point very quickly. The best part is that it is a fraction of the cost of a French quill. I will order a smaller one and I hope the quality is the same!
Very Nice Brushes!

These brushes were recommended by a teacher I took a class from. Needing to add larger brushes to my supplies, I bought sizes 4, 6, and 10 thru 20, all in round brushes. I am not disappointed! They do the job as good as more expensive ones, and I am glad I have them now, instead of going through several "cycles" of trying and using brushes.

Saw someone use this to make long thin lines like weeds and grass, so I bought one. I am sure it has many more uses, but I have not used it enough to tell. Its a quality brush, so I am sure I will like it. Nice to have a specialty brush in my collection.

Loved them so much I bought more!
from Aurora, CO
I purchased the set of 4 brushes to try these out. Now, I have tried just about every type of brush out there.....I love trying new brushes, and I've also never really found that perfect brush that works for every technique. But finally, with the Neptune brushes, I think I've found that brush! Not only is the hair perfect, holds its shape, has the right amount of flexibility and snap, and holds a tremendous amount of water and paint, they're also really pretty and very nice to hold. The handles just have a really nice feel and are easy to grip. The flat wash brushes in particular are like frosted glass. Admittedly, some smoother brushes tend to fly right out of my hand sometimes....come on, I know I'm not the only one this happens to, admit it. But anyway, the handles have this sortof satin finish and it's a lot easier to grip. (Though, I wish these brushes had the almost rubbery grip that the Princeton Umbria brushes have, as THAT is a good-grip brush!)Bottom line, I loved the set of 4 brushes so much that I just placed an order for 10 more brushes in different sizes! These brushes seriously rock, and they're extremely moderately priced when you compare them to real sable brushes for example. That said, a certain type of brush doesn't always work for everyone, so I highly recommend you pick up a couple to try them out, I think you'll love them!
Great brush for painting fir trees and leaves
from Lake Havasu AZ
very nice tool for painting fir trees and leaves.
My second brush in this series
from San Diego
I have not used other brands of quill brushes so I don't have a comparison. I can tell you they have become a go to brush when working loose. They hold a ton of water and maintain a sharp point.
Great value, great quality

I really like these. They hold the amount of water I like to use and help the paint spread nicely.
Excited about their performance so far
from New York
I haven't played around with all the brushes I selected from this line, but the ones I've used so far have performed beyond my expectations. I'm curious to see how they perform with age. Otherwise, they hold a LOT of water, keep a nice point, and are a great synthetic squirrel. The best part, no quilt trip!
