Princeton has done it again, offering its softest and thirstiest synthetic ever!
Almost 20 years ago, Princeton gave artists a synthetic version of Sable that was almost the equal of fine Kolinsky. Today, it's still the standard for performance among its rivals. When Princeton set out to create a synthetic version of Squirrel, the company developed a brush that may actually outperform the natural version.
Neptune is Princeton's thirstiest brush ever, delivering oceans of color to the sheet. Featuring the latest synthetic fiber technology, the Neptune's multiple-diameter filaments are configured to replicate the smooth feel of natural Squirrel, with enhanced snap and resilient strength. Experts in natural hair have been incredulous that the Neptune brush hair is actually synthetic.
Princeton is proud to offer Neptune in a beautiful range of shapes that includes hand-tied Mottlers and Quills. The beautiful sea glass handles of the Aquarelle brushes are the signature of the line.
™ Princeton is a trademark.™ Neptune is a trademark.

Comments about Princeton Neptune Synthetic Squirrel Brushes:
These brushes are excellent at holding lots of water/paint! I generally use Silver Brush Black Velvet brushes, but wanted something narrower not available in their line. This works wonderfully and is very similar!

I just love the little 1" Mottler. I keep it in my sketching kit so it's with me all the time whether teaching, sketching or travelling. It's great for wetting the paper or doing large washes or building shapes - anything that needs the broad flat edge. It's short-handled compact size is just perfect.
love these brushes
I use these brushes for watercolor and acrylic painting and they are fantastic. These brushes can really be loaded up without harming how the paint flows on the surface. They are so soft yet very sturdy and always come back to shape. One of my favorite things is the ease of clean up, just rinse under warm water until it runs clear, shake and it will dry perfectly. If you really abuse it and let acrylic dry on it then rinse off as much as you can using fingernails and use brush soap and it will be good as new. The only thing to get used to is how much water it holds and getting used to the load. They are inexpensive brushes relatively and worth a try. I have a whole set.

The synthetic that beats your average 'kolinsky'
By Victoria Y.

A good brush is hard to find, and these Princeton Neptune's are superb. They hold a ton of water, are springy but not too rigid, and aren't as fragile in my travel case as my various kolinsky brushes from other brands. Paint can be rinsed out without soap and I haven't had bristles come out of the ferrule or been stuck with permanently bent bristles. After carrying around and using a half dozen of these brushes for three years at shops and restaurants, these are still in fantastic condition. Awesome product, especially the quill variety for washes. The consistent bristle behavior between various shapes of brushes in the line makes it easier to get the effects I'm trying for.

Although I'm not a watercolorist per se, I use these brushes almost daily for W/C sketches and studies. The quality is superb...ferrules are tight, handles have a matte finish and are easy to hold (plus they're angled butt section allows for paper manipulation), and bristles are a bit softer than W&N series 985, and hold a little more water.Although I have some nice sables, and a few other synthetics, I prefer these Princeton Aquarelles to all the others for the work I do.I would highly recommend them to any artist of any skill level, and continue to supplement and replace my stock with these excellent brushes.
Super nice brushes
Overall these brushes are really nice, well made. They hold a lot of water, one of the best synthetic brushes I've ever used.
The quality sold me the first time I used one.

A fine brush for applying fine detail or wide coverage.

I use my Princeton Neptune brushes to paint on glass. The process involves painting a wash of prepared glass enamels - water-based - onto a glass surface, and then using a badger brush to smooth out the coating. At this point, various brushes and other implements are used to remove some of the enamel to provide shadows and highlights to design. My Princeton Neptune brushes allow me to apply a very even coat of enamel, regardless of the amount of medium used. They keep their shape, and they're easy to clean.
The best brushes I've used.

Putting the headline in context I'm a relatively new artist. The Neptunes are nice brushes and I think a good value. Purchased a #16 round a few months ago on clearance and was impressed. Good brushes make a difference. Wanted to try a quill so purchased a #8 Neptune quill and also a 1/2" dagger since they were on-sale. These hold a lot of water. The quill is as versatile as I anticipated. I enjoyed painting with it. I haven't tried the dagger yet.Blick's care in packaging was remarkable. The brushes were hand wrapped in bubble wrap and taped, arriving in perfect condition.
