Princeton's gesso brush is hand crafted in the USA, and features natural flagged end bristle hair. It is economically priced, but is high quality with minimum hair loss.

The burgundy lacquered handle is well balanced for extended working time. The gesso brush is excellent for priming canvas, varnishing, or large scale paintings.

Note — Brush sizes are not standardized. The length and width of a brush of a given shape and size varies considerably by manufacturer. Since fine art brushes are handmade, expect some variation even among brushes from a given manufacturer.

I use these for gessoing panel for a glass smooth finish and they work very well. They will lose hairs here and there but that can be expected with bristles because of the inconsistency of the hair sizes with the gluing process; it should eventually cease. Be sure to let them fully dry before storing them away because they can start to rust but that's the case with most steel brushes. After they are washed the best thing to do is to wrap a 1.5'' strip of paper around the ferrule, tape it together then slide it up around the tip of the bristles while drying. This will keep it from splaying out. When you know what you're doing when it comes to this type of brush and its uses than you can't go wrong. Really good price too if you buy enough stuff at once in order to save more than the shipping cost. If you buy just one brush than you're not getting a good deal because of the shipping.

the bristle quality of these brushes is very poor and i was constantly pulling hairs out of my gesso
not to mention they really stink when they're wet

These were recomended to me by Wilson Bickford and they are awesome. Also, I find the price to be super for such a high quality product. The only "Con", which does not even apply to the actual product is the shipping cost.... I don't have a Blick store near where I live but so be it...

Thank you for your products and service.

The brushes are more than super good. The quality exceed my expectancy.
I use them with gesso of course but also for bigger area and background.
They "slide" perfectly on the canvas and do their job superbly.
In my area they are 4 time the price for a very poor quality.
I will buy them again and again on a heart beat.

I bought these brushes on the recommendation of the artist and art instructor Wilson Bickford. They are for my wet-on-wet oil (Bill Alexander/Bob Ross style) painting.

These brushes are perfect for that style of painting. Would I recommend them? Yes, very much so.
