Leather scraps aren't what I expected
By Lizzy P
from Manhattan beach
Comments about Silver Creek Premium Leather Remnants:
The samples were mostly brown except one large piece of red. Nothing like the photo that shows a range of colors. Also, most of the scraps were so small that they were unusable. Shipping was almost as expensive as the product, so returning it was useless.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I bought this package based on the Dick Blick art project recommended supplies list for making a hand-sewn journal. It's all garbage! Not a single piece is big enough to work with. I expected small pieces but 1/2"X1" is just plain garbage.
Merchant response: We are sorry to hear that you were not able to use the assortment you received for your projects. The assortment of remnants can vary in each package. Our Customer Care team will be in touch to see if we can help you with a refund or exchange.
Nicer than I was expecting
from Fort Atkinson, WI
I was really impressed with these scraps. They were much larger than scraps I've gotten elsewhere, and the color and quality were superior. I will definitely be purchasing these again. They are perfect for my crafts. I could even try making shoes with these.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Most won't be useful...
from Highland, Michigan
I hadn't purchased anything like this before and of course I was at the usual disadvantage buying online where I couldn't see this up close. For what it was it's just OK but nothing great. I have two problems with the bundle: one, probably 80%+ was of a stiff and nonflexible texture. It doesn't seem like I can "break it in" like a baseball glove. It might just as well have been plastic; two, the odd mixture of shapes (mostly pretty small) make it harder to use for certain projects. The rest of the bag was more in line with what I expected to get. (I had no real basis for forming my expectations, just wishful thinking I guess) It was much softer, and of this I got a single really nice piece that was maybe 4x larger than the other remnants. There wasn't any real variety of colorI would have been happier with an equal share of different shades as well as textures, or at least one with far more supple pieces than stiff. The next time I purchase any leather it will be a single large remnant and I'll do some homework to better understand what I'm buying.

Worst thing you can buy from Dick Blick

I chose the "Premium" leather remnants to use as covers for soft bodied journals to give as gifts. I was anticipating something similar to the picture. An assortment of leathers. All I received was black and saddle colored leather. Very little of it was in usable form. The majority of it had been cut up inconsistently for other projects it looks like. I actually did expect my purchase to match the picture. That is what pictures are for. I have tried to think of what I could use the leather for, if not for my original plan and I can't come up with anything that you could make with the holy leather. I would have to trim at least 50% of the leather to use it. I think that should be made clear to the buyer. To be fair, there are some larger pieces in the package I opened and it looks like there are some larger pieces in the one that I didn't open.

I ordered this item to use as the cover of hand made journals. I knew I would get some small pieces of leather so I was prepared to make journals of various sizes. I received far more tiny scraps than anything. I don't think I can do anything with those. Some of the pieces even have tiny holes in them (like a bug chewed them?) and others look like someone has cut circles out of the center of them! I've never bought leather before, so I don't know if this quality is normal. I did like the variety of colors that I received, though...

only one big leather
from Brooklyn, NY
The bag I got contained NOT a variety of small leather pieces, as pictured here, but rather one giant piece. I guess at least this is true to the "assortment will vary" description, and I wouldn't really mind it if only it wasn't such an ugly piece that I got. It was a "remnant" piece indeed. So just be wary that it might not be as pretty as pictured.

I bought the leather remnants so I could practice leather stamping and I was pleased with the variety of different leathers in this pack.
