I really like the Prang watercolors. When I inherited my art room the previous teacher had already ordered the square pan 16 color sets. I like that I can get replacement strips for the main colors but I am so frustrated that I cannot order the other side in a strip. I can't even find all of the other colors in a refill form at all. I am on a very tight budget and will have to find another brand that I can get replacements for or that are more affordable. I also hate that the palettes break apart.

I'm very disappointed with the new Prang watercolors. I'm an art teacher and have always liked the quality of Prang -- nice bright colors, good saturation, good paint-handling qualities for kids, an excellent value. The new batch I just received is different. The colors are dull and weak, especially the blue, and with just a little wetting the paint turns mushy. The kids were digging their brushes into it as if it were tempera (and these kids have watercolor experience.) I'm sorry I spent the money for 24 sets. Will not do so again.

This is a review of the 16 oval pan set. The orange is very dull and muddy. The yellow is off too. Colors not very saturated. Pans wet easily. Sargent's makes a much better set (see review).

This is good paint at a good value! Love the color selection in the 16 set & LOVE being able to order refills for the popular colors.
BUT - the current double palette itself is terrible quality. The two sides are joined by two tiny plastic tabs which are guaranteed to break apart in a classroom. Also, the lids constantly fall off due to hinge design & are really hard to put back on.

The Prang paints have changed! I used them some years ago in a class I taught and loved them. This year I bought them again and was very disappointed in that the colors are not the same. The orange paint is brown, the yellow is not as brilliant, blue is aqua and brown is dull.

I use this product in high school art classes.I have used other watercolors in these kinds of sets, and Prang is definitely the best. It has great colors and more pigment than the other kinds.
I like to offer my students a classy art experience with rich materials, and Prang does it!

Prang watercolors are the top of the line! Last year I had my students bring in their own watercolors so we had a variety of brands. No other brand came close to Prang. Prang paints contain more pigment so the colors are more vibrant. This also makes the watercolor set last longer since the children use less paint. I only wish these paints didn't cost so much - this year I bought a set for my entire class. Ouch! But I know it will be worth it!

This same set has been around for many years and for good reason. One of these and a small block of paper or a watercolor sketch book and you have an inexpensive sketch kit capable of real work. These paints are not just for kids. The colors are clear and clean and mix very well. Do throw out the cheap brush though and and move up a notch to an inexpensive synthetic. The only actual concern you might have is permanence. At this price some of the colors are probably fugitive.
