Nice, black ink. Stiff bristles that hold their point. so far it hasn't clogged or leaked and I use it a lot. Lasts a long time, too.

I bought this Pentel Brush Pen -fine point- after owning the same brush pen in the medium point. The fine point is the same quality I got from the medium point, and it gave me the extra control of detail that I was expecting. Great brush pen. The ink is inside the body of the pen, so no cartridge -which I prefer. I just squeeze the pen to saturate the brush nib, and I'm off. The stroke weight changes with the pressure I apply, but the opacity is consistent no matter how thick or thin my strokes are. Great saturation. No matter how much or little pressure is applied, the pen and its ink doesn't jump or skip. The ink dries fairly quickly, too; important for a lefty. There is minimal smudging when I color in with my other felt brush pens. Great pen for lettering, and illustration. I would recommend this pen to not only calligraphers, but illustrators, too. The price is a great value, and this pen is a great tool.

Love my new pigment pink brush!!
from Valencia, CA
I bought this pigment pen because using a normal watercolor brush was too much of a hassle sometimes, re-dipping the brush back in the paint and water. One of my favorite watercolor artist uses this pen to make nice clean dark lines on her sketches. I got this in the mail and felt a bit confused how to start the ink. You had to take our the red plastic circle that blocks the ink from traveling down to the pen tip. The ink at first wasn't opaque, but as soon as the ink runs smoothly, it really makes dark clean lines!

Excellent Pen, slight problems.
By Freelance Art Department
I ordered two of these pens and both of them came leaking ink in the package. They were not crushed or anything, so I have no idea why. At the same time I ordered these I had also ordered about 6 other Pentel pens of various types and they were all fine. I contacted Blick and they sent out replacements via 2nd day FedEx.Once I got the replacements, they were both fine and had no problems. As far as the actual pen goes, they are great. Once you get the ink flowing for the first time they work like a charm.I like these much better than the Faber-Castell brush pens, but not quite as good as the Kuretake which is my absolute favorite. If you have the money to spend, get the Kuretake... if not, these are a great alternative.

EXCELLENT inking pen!
from Central, SC
I use this tool almost every day to ink everything under the sun. It is an exceptional substitute to using a more traditional brush and dip ink, providing constant flow that a traditional brush can't match and honestly I prefer the springiness of the bristles. The tip holds quite a nice sharp line and changing the speed of movement changes the line to a wonderful rough texture. The tip does not favor one particular side to lean to, unlike my Pentel Pocket Brush pen. Used in tandem with .08 and smaller pigment pens allows for a wide array of techniques and treatments. Holding the pen steady enough for extremely fine lines is difficult, but I usually just pick up a standard pen at that point. Another nice quality to the pen's ink is that it does not feather, even on rougher papers or papers without much sizing. If you want to stretch the use of the pen I would recommend using only plate bristol or other very smooth surfaces. It makes woodblock imitations and comic styles much less frustrating. Plus no mess and no having to wash out a brush! This ink IS WATERPROOF. There is another very similar brush, but it's called the "Pentel Arts Color Brush Pen" that is water-soluble and will run/smear with markers and water. The "Pentel Arts Pigment Ink Brush Pen" is the one listed here and can stand up to whatever you put on it.The con? The ink is not a deep, rich black. Linework is great, but large areas have a noticeable streaky quality; traditional ink is probably better in that case.
