Welcome to dickblick
Pelikan Plaka is an all-purpose casein paint that dries quickly (within 12 to 24 hours) to a smooth, velvety matte surface that is extremely opaque. It adheres well to virtually any light or dark surface, including paper, wood, cardboard, leather, pottery, plaster, glass, plastic, and stone.
Plaka is ideal for commercial art and window displays as well as transparencies, posters, interior and exterior decorations, crafts and model-making. It is fadeproof and waterproof; however, paintings intended to be long-lasting should be coated with an air-dry lacquer.
Stir Plaka before using. It can be diluted with water.

Comments about Pelikan Plaka Paint:
I couldn't use the product because it was rotten upon arrival. I realized after receiving it that it is milk based so it is probably best to find a local dealer to buy this.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Smooth, Opaque, Waterproof
By A. S.

Plaka Casein is DIFFERENT than the other available casein paint. Its benefits, in my opinion, are that it's WATERPROOF and SLIGHTLY RUNNY. It is like a thick liquid in the jar, though you still have to stir or shake it and add a little water before use. It really is quite waterproof when dry, even if you let it dry on the palette for just a few minutes and then try to re-wet it, it remains. It is like a smooth fine gouache paint, only more opaque. I use it on illustration board and its appearance is wonderfully flat and smooth. Works with single-action airbrush when thinned. BEWARE: it does have a slight fume smell. I would best describe it as a "permanent marker" / xylene smell; I almost wonder if they put xylene in the paint. I've grown fond of the smell over the years, but I was surprised when I first tried these paints. They are prone to dry or solidify in the jar after a few years, especially the lighter colours for some reason, so if you don't use them for 5-8 months, be sure to add a few drops of water to the jar to help keep them moist, and ALWAYS PUT CAPS ON TIGHTLY. They should be stirred with a small screwdriver or thin palette knife to really get them mixed properly.
