Welcome to dickblick
Here are genuine artists’ quality pastels — the softest in the world — uniquely packaged in stacking and interlocking jars. The packaging protects the colors, thus reducing damage and waste. PanPastels were specially developed so that artists could lift, apply, and control pastel color, just like true painting. The pan format holds color like paint for easy application. Each pan contains 35% more material than the average pastel stick. (On average, based on a market survey of standard soft pastel sticks.) The label, with color name and number, remains with the color pan for easy identification.
Loaded with the highest quality artists’ pigments, PanPastel colors are made using a unique manufacturing process requiring minimal binder and fillers, resulting in a rich, ultra soft, low-dust formulation. These professional quality colors are highly pigmented and have excellent lightfastness. They are erasable and fully compatible with traditional pastel sticks, pastel surfaces, and conventional fixatives. They can be mixed, blended, layered, and applied like paint for an infinite palette of colors.
With PanPastel, it is possible to create more painterly effects. The artist can apply controlled marks, from intense to delicate — ultra thin “glazing” layers and veils of color. It is possible to block in large areas of color in seconds, for backgrounds, underpainting, and tinting paper. PanPastels clean up easily.
Each jar contains 9 ml (0.3 oz) of pastel. Instructions are also included.
Color Chart Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.

I use the pan-pastels for figure and portrait. I use stick pastels where sharper lines are needed. The nesting trays are great for transportation but I would like a tray where they can lock-in during use.
Making realistic flowers in shading they are soft in texture and easy to useBest price too I will be back for others
Greatest new idea in art supplies
from Grayslake IL
I love working in pastels. The medium allows for the spontaneity of drawing. The points I like best about pastels in pans are that there is no breakage, the colors don't get messy, and setting out the pans makes for a more organized work session.

Who's Wedding Is It?
I purchased the landscape set....finding I need more darks. I like them to quickly block in the color scheme in a painting....have not used them enough yet to be comfortable with detail work. Definitely get the tray to put them in....dealing with individual pans is a pain. I knocked one off and pretty much destroyed it....
Super on polymer clay
I are polymer clay sculpture and jewelry. These chalks are superb for tinting and shading fur, skin, flower petals, etc... They apply smoothly, adhere well and don't color shift in curing. Can't ask for better!
I am new to pan pastels and I love them. After seeing them in tutorials for art journals I was very intrigued and couldn't wait to get my hands on some . I have already used them for backgrounds in my art journal they are so easy to use and beginner friendly. You really can't go wrong they blend beautiful and so creamy that are quite possible my favorite art supply.

Wow! What a difference"
By Moon Shines Brightly
Ordering the PanPastel sets was an investment to which I gave long consideration before deciding to buy them. I ordered the portrait set and the basic 20-color set. I have one student, a senior, who can draw and paint people with truly incredible ability. She was the one who mentioned these to me. (This teacher has no problem learning from my students! :) I may see such an item in a catalog, but unless I see it inaction or decide to try it myself, it often gets passed by.) I told her that if I purchased these, then she would have to agree to be my first Guinea pig to use them! We expected our order to arrive on the Monday we returned from Spring Break and it did. She experimented with them the first day and then two other very advanced students joined her the next day in using the PanPastels. Their consensus was that the PanPastels are much better than traditional chalk stick kinds.
PanPastels were created to offer the artist a new tool for artistic expression by merging dry medium with wet, painterly technique. These highest quality pastels are rich, soft and lightfast and are contained in a truly unique pan that holds 35% more material than the average stick pastel.
See what distinquishes these high quality artists' pastels and tools from any other. Both products were invented for artists by artists and offer a new and unique way of painting with pastel. This video will show various applications, tips, and techniques.
Sofft tools were specifically developed for use with PanPastel soft pastels but are so versatile, inexpensive, and reusable, they can also be used with most water-based art and craft materials. Try using with watercolor, acrylic paint, glazes and with a variety of dry mediums, such as hard or soft traditional pastels and charcoal to create exciting new techniques, marks, and effects.
