I have always been a sketching artist, #2 pencils and the cheap graphite.    I tried soft pastels a long time ago.  I didn't  think i would ever use them again.  Granted the first attempt was student grade crumble sticks,however i have seen brilliant pics made with even  those from artists.  I took a long shot and ordered the 80 pack set of pan pastels in a "why not" mindset . I now have drawn about 10 quality pics in the last 3 weeks.  Its so easy with the pans.  They make the base layer so simple.  So simple that I realized the reason I was turned off originally from pastels was because that base layer seemed to take as long as the detail layers.  Then pans are a perfect addition to a nice handmade soft set and a nice pencil set.  The three together make a complete set.

The colors are so pure and lovely I want to lick them! And they simply glide onto any surface I've tried so far. Although they are a bit pricey there is little dust therefore little waste, and a little goes a long way, so I regard them as very worth the price. I'm having a wonderful time playing with my PanPastels. Thank you.

I'm a newbie to this product and so far I love these pastels. I wished I had known about them earlier . I love the fact that its not a big mess to clean up afterwards. LOAW DUST. Can't wait until I receive the set of 80 that I just purchased today.

I bought 4 or 5 sets of these and ended up with 13 repeat colors. I didn't see this noted in the item descriptions. Did I miss it? Also, couldn't find individual colors for sale. For the expense, I am disappointed that so many colors were the same. This decreases the value of an already expensive product.

I love the soft effects which remind me of airbrush blending. I often use masks or stencils which I cut myself. This more delicate card stock is a better match with the gentler application process of PanPastels.

It is possible to cover large areas quickly, blending within a color pan has no adverse contamination, and color changes only require a few quick swipes on paper toweling to clean the applicator surface. Dust is lower than traditional pastels which is better for books and journals. Soap and water is needed only intermittently. All this adds up to a speedy, low maintenance process.

I really like this addition to my mixed media arsenal. PanPastels are neater and cleaner than watercolor sprays or inks but I often use the PanPastels for the same effect as the messier, drippier wet products. The dry nature also allows for quicker progression - no drying time in between layers.

Those with a color theory background will recognize the color coding system : pure shades ###.5 (painting sets), the tints have high numbers after the decimal point and the shades low. This knowledge will help differentiate the sets and aid in choosing the mix best for you.

The storage trays are a must. They allow for one handed loading and blending because each pan firmly snaps into the tray. Storage is also a breeze with one large cover clicking on and the whole tray moving easily into its proper place at the end of the day.

PanPastel is a product that cannot be compared to others; it simply has its own character. I can paint things with this that I cannot paint with any other medium. When I paint with it, it gives me a feeling of freedom of possibility. I do not have any problems with this product, and because I enjoy this product so much, I call it My PanPastel. I would highly recommend it to any artist.

First let me say, I am very impressed at the ingenuity of the people who invented this product. These PanPastels are a great addition to my supplies and are making certain effects in my paintings much easier. The only thing I don't really like is how much more expensive individual colors are as compared to the sets. They're almost double in price! Therefore, if you're just starting out in PanPastels it's a much more economical choice to buy a small set or two rather than individual colors. If you run out of a color you'll also get more for your money buying that color in a set rather than individually.
