Welcome to dickblick
This is the airbrush most in demand by working professionals for painting T-shirts and vehicles. It's based on the same action as the Model V, but it's physically larger. This siphon-feed, double action, internal mix airbrush can spray heavy fluids such as textile paint, auto lacquers, and enamels.
Paasche's Model VL is available with three different multiplehead assemblies. Purchase them individually, or buy them all at once in a complete set. If you're adding more brushes to your studio, you can save by buying them without accessories. Dick Blick also carries replacement parts. The Paasche Model VL is suitable for both left- and right-handed users.

Current version of a classic.
from Brighton, CO
This is my second VL. I still own and use a VL from the mid-70's. The current version shows several changes in the head assembly. They all seem to be changes for the better. No protective cap is needed. The extended 'spray regulator' portion of the new model head is common to all spray patterns and facilitates cleaning the brush by back flush. The needle is quite recessed so the end can be safely and easily covered with the fingertip. I've only used this one with the installed #3 and it worked great with thinned craft store acrylics. I thinned the paint about 50-50 and used about 35 lbs. of air. The VL shot with the needle just barely cracked or wide open. A good value, I would recommend the VL set for the additional spray patterns, jars, hose etc.

Paasche part sent to New Zealand
from New Zealand
The part itself was fine, just what I expected. The packaging however was completely over the top. A box the size of a ream of copy paper to send something half the size of a ballpoint pen. When you are paying freight to New Zealand this makes a big difference - quadrupled the cost of the part.Blick are good to deal with though, have had several good transactions.

VL is alright.

I bought this product to use for painting large pictures. And when it works, it does work great. It sparys out well, thick to thin lines are simple to manage, and it is all around easy to use when it actually works. When I say when it actually works, I mean that mine gets jammed easily, and it often takes me an hour to get it up and running again or to change paint colors. I use the airbrush paints, very thin, and I clean it out, but it seems to have a hard time pulling paint throught it; hence I have gone to a gravilty fed one which seems to have less hang ups.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Old resources, new tricks
By Nicolas De la Hoz
from Bogota, Colombia
In my oil painting, I am accustomed not to need more technical tricks than those that I already know. However, I want to testify that the airbrush Paasche VL that I bought seven years ago, with its three needles and nozzles, brought me new possibilities. It works perfectly well with oil, watercolor, gouache, and charcoal pencil tips finely ground and dissolved in water. It allows to build up thick and modulated layers of paint very quickly. With conventional acrylic paint it doesn't work so well because this paint dry very quickly and it obstructs the nozzles. Thanks to its double action lever It is possible to spray very finely, or to sprinkle the paint intentionally. I want to show a feminine face study, and a real size study of feminine figure in which the white cloth has been partially modulated with the airbrush Paasche VL, my new reliable assistant. The applied paint was W&N Winton oil.

Paasche Airbrush COmplete Set
from Atlanta, GA
I have never used an airbrush before and glad to have gotten this model. Easy to use and learn with. However, I am disappointing that the 3oz bottle did NOT come in the complete set like the description said it would. The wrench is also quite difficult to use because of its small size, making it hard to keep hold of.

Paasche Model VL airbrush
By airbrush Mick
from Flemington, New Jersey
I've been doing industrial airbrush illustration of technical products for about 40 years, and have used all the major airbrush brands. I'd usually have 5 airbrushes operating simultaneously, having a different color in each brush, so I could go back and forth without the inefficient time-consuming task of having to clean the brush between color changes. Also I could not afford to have any breakdowns, so I had to keep plenty of spare parts, and indeed some spare airbrushes on hand. For years I used only the Thayer and Chandler model A. In the middle '70's they changed specs, and while their quality was good, their design was not. I then started buying Paasche model V brushes, which are similar to the T&C model A. What impressed me about Paasche was their continued production of the same brush, and the availability of repair parts to fit new and older brushes, so I was able to keep all my brushes in good working condition. I purchased the Paasche model VL, as I needed a larger airbrush for spraying stains on wooden products I make. Probably the only drawback is that waterbase stains work fine, but alcohol and solvent base stains, because of their lower viscosity, tend to leak out of the friction connection where the color cup is inserted into the airbrush, and the color cup or bottle has a tendency to merely fall out, which could be disastrous. This is not a fault of the brush, and in hindsight I probably should have purchased the VL model with the screw-on bottle.I think that Paasche is manufacturing the best airbrushes on the market. Their products are very fairly priced, their quality is excellent, and their workmanship is outstanding, and I would definitely recommend any Paasche product. They have been manufacturing model AB fine arts airbrush continuously since 1910 or so, so that should tell you something of their commitment, strength, and reliability.
