Consistently considered the artist's top choice, this is the original plastic palette created and patented by world-renowned artist John Pike in 1960. Unlike copies, it is made of high-impact polystyrene using the injection mold method. This plastic is incredibly strong and most importantly stain-resistant.
The Original John Pike Palette is large — 15" × 10-1/2" × 5/8" — with 20, 1-1/2" paint wells.
The inside of the snap-on cover serves as an additional palette without divisions — ideal when you need a clean spot in a hurry. Free of any obstructions, it offers a great "thinking" area in which you find the right color and value by freely pulling in from the three pigment banks, without a runback. This is probably the palette's most important single feature — a generous space where you can work up a wash without it running back into your pure color.

The wells are deep and wide enough. I use it to mix and match. It is a good surface for mixing colors and creating shades. It is the best palette I have used.

It's really a pity that the US are so far and shipping and custom fees so high!

A necessary tool

I am just learning water color and needed a palette. I chose this one because it looked like I could use it successfully. I haven't been able to use it much but will be getting back to my art when life slows down just a bit. What I have been able to do so far, I like a lot.

I have used the same John Pike Palette for almost 30 years and find it perfect for my use. I gave one to my recently retired sister, who has discovered she enjoys making art. I wanted to start her off with the best!I like that it has a cover which makes carrying it so much easier. I leave the colors in the palette...if they dry before I use them again, I simply reconstitute them right in the palette. Works for me!!!

Using this palette for water color and, except for some initial beading, it is perfect. Have been told to scratch up the surface lightly but haven't had a chance. Main thing is its sturdiness, perfect size for studio and en Plein Air use. The cover keeps paints fresh and provides additional mixing space. Love it!

Has a lot of area for mixing colors.
Great watercolor palette
Like this palette very much. Good size wells for paint, and loads of space to mix colors.
