New Masters Classic Acrylics are the realization of a dream held by Professor Theo de Beer, Old Holland's late owner, to develop a line of acrylics and acrylic mediums that would be used today by the "New Masters" of art, just as Old Holland oil paints were used by the Old Masters.
This line was developed specifically to complement Old Holland's existing oil and watercolor ranges, yet incorporate the finest new pigments available today. A pure acrylic binder sourced from a "boutique" European manufacturer, while more costly, imparts a unique characteristic to these paints, ensuring excellent adhesion, color retention, and working properties.
The combination of high pigment load and a proprietary binding system results in colors that uniquely exhibit the characteristics of the individual pigments. They dry to a satin gloss and offer minimum brush drag, making them ideal for a variety of techniques, from high-build impasto to ultra-thin glazing.
Other hallmarks of the New Masters line include the absence of extenders or fillers and minimal wet-dry color shift. Plus, they're virtually indistinguishable in color strength, brilliance, and intensity from the oil color range that is the basis of the Old Holland heritage.
Extensive development, consultation with professional artists, and years of field trials have resulted in a selection of opaque and transparent colors that include a range of metallic, pearlescent, iridescent, and interference colors.
Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.
Comments about Old Holland New Masters Classic Acrylics:
This is not my first review. I am a professional artist who uses my collection of acrylic paints every day. I purchased almost every color of OLD HOLLAND acrylics when they first came out back in (2006?) and have made them a part of my palette ever since. First, I want to say, I LOVE them! Everything I'd written in my previous preview still "pretty much" holds. EXCEPT one big problem that Old Holland acrylics have ... They congeal! They go bad! They dry up in the tubes and become unusable after a time! This applies to some, not all, it depends on the color. I have some colors that I bought in 2006 that are still as creamy and usable as they day I got them. Others however, have had to be tossed in the garbage! This is a shame, because they really are SO unique. Let me point out, as a comparison, I have paints from GOLDENS than I bought in 1992, and I'm still using them today! So how come Old Holland paint can go bad in 12 months? I have bought replacement tubes for the ones that went dry on me. That's how much I like these paints! But, I don't think most people would do that. However, when I find a comparable color in another brand, I go with the other brand because of this drying problem. COME ON OLD HOLLAND! This is inexcusable in my opinion. You MUST be aware of this! FIX IT!. This is the "ACHILLES HEEL" of this product.

Comments about Old Holland New Masters Classic Acrylics:
I love this paint! I have used various brands of acrylic paint over the years, and none come so close to perfection as Old Holland! They look like oil paint, which is great, since I've also use oils and they are a mess to clean up, so having acrylics that look and feel like oil paints is fabulous!
They are a tad expensive though, but I would definitley save my money and buy these paints rather than buying a bunch of cheaper paints in brands that aren't as good. I also used them with the Old Holland acrylic mediums, and they slide across the canvas beautifully and hold brush strokes like oil paint.
I only didn't give this review 5 stars because the cap broke off one of the tubes, so I got the paint tube plugs from Blick and used that to close the tube, since I didn't want any of it to go to waste.

Comments about Old Holland New Masters Classic Acrylics:
I used to paint with Old Holland then tried some other newer ones. I really liked alot of them but, came back to Old Holland in the end. Even though its more expensive I love the feel of the paint and how much it spreads for so little paint. Like Butter. Or like it feels when I use a fluffy white frosting on a cake. Light and smooth to spread is the feeling. Not dragging or heavy. And compared next to other paints, the colors are richer and have a depth. I am a pushover for these paints. I do love them and how a painting looks afterwards when I use them. under they ask if I would recommend the product and I already have recommended them

I gave this five stars this time to make up for my three star review because I thought I painted on canvas but it was actually paper canvas. When I reapplied the buff color onto real canvas this time it did dry with a nice sheen. I am also trying the Golden Open acrylics which do stay wet longer even without mediums so you have time to blend. Sorry for any confusion.

Comments about Old Holland New Masters Classic Acrylics:
After reading the reviews of good coverage and thickness of paint and it dries to a nice sheen I thought I'd try these. After laying down Old Holland next to the Winsor Newton Artists' acrylic paint on canvas I found the Winsor Newton to have more substance and it dried with a better sheen. It was a little dissapointing because the color line of the Old Holland is what drew me in. Maybe I'm not doing something right. I don't paint with mediums so I guess I'll stick with my Winsor Newtons.

Comments about Old Holland New Masters Classic Acrylics:
I could not work with this paint that well, hence the lukewarm rating. Its just too physically light. its supposed to be like oil paint. But if oil paint is like full-fat yogurt, this acrylic is fat-free yogurt. It drove me crazy. It seems thick with medium. It might be a nice top color, over a heavier base, or a sky color, because it does have a nice translucency. I was not sure that I could mix this with other more strongly pigmented acrylic safely, so gave this paint to my kids. Actually, my son thinned the paint down and his painting project did look better than if he had used inexpensive paint. The color was nice. So a different artist might like the way it handles, and it certainly seems durable and all. If you are considering this, I'd try a white and a couple of colors first before springing for a full palette to see if this works with your hand.

MY FAVORITE ACRYLIC PAINT

Comments about Old Holland New Masters Classic Acrylics:
I've tried just about every brand of acrylic paint and medium. OLD HOLLAND has become my favorite.
If I were marooned on a desert island, and could only have one brand of paint for the rest of my life, this would be it. The colors are vibrant, the pigment content is super-high. I love the way this paint mixes with glazing medium. (I also recommend Old Holland glazing solution)
They are a bit expensive. However, I can use so much less than other paints because of the pigment load. For me, it's worth the extra money to use the best quality. These are professional artists grade paints. I recommend them above all others. I use them every day, and I love them.

Comments about Old Holland New Masters Classic Acrylics:
Old Masters offers colors that no other paint manufacturer does. Especially their special yellows. Blood red is a must. The pigment load is super-high, allowing you to use tiny amounts. This makes the paint a bargain.
