Old Holland has been synonymous with quality oil colors for more than 300 years. They took their time developing a line of brushes worthy of their oils and really got it right!
Using a special blend of the finest quality Russian Kolinsky sable, the head (shape) of each brush is handcrafted by experienced, world-class brushmakers to the exact requirements of master artists. Each brush is put through extensive trials over many months. Heads are then firmly attached to seamless polished nickel-plated ferrules.
Silver-tipped, finely balanced matte black hardwood handles augment the distinguished look and feel of these magnificent tools.
Experience the firm feel of very full Kolinsky hair brushes, the superb shaping of the heads, which come to an excellent edge and/or point, and the luxurious softness of only the finest hair.

Comments about Old Holland Kolinsky Sable Round:
I am painting shorebirds. They require details in the feathers. The #2 is best for the small details. The #6 is best for larger feathers. These brushes have fine points and hold more paint than synthetics. I just don't have to go back to my pallet and reload my brushes as often so that the consistency of the colr is higher.

A brush worth the cost!

Comments about Old Holland Kolinsky Sable Filbert Series 7004:
I LOVE holland brushes, they are the best I've worked with for oil paints. The line quality is amazing. I use to buy cheaper brushes because I didn't want to invest in more expensive ones, thinking that there couldn't be that much of a difference. The problem was all of those brushes just weren't producing a line quality I liked, and felt unsatisfied. I decided to take a risk and buy a Holland brush. The difference in quality is amazing! It just shows that in this case you really do get what you pay for. :)
My Favorite Brushes

In some of my lessons I was told I should get some mid sized red sables for detailed work. I picked up some of the Old Holland brights in the 2 to 8 range, even though the cost was a bit more than some other brands. They are really smooth, keep their shape, hold lots of paint and are just an absolute joy to paint with compared to bristles in the same size range. Since my livelihood is engineering and not painting, I'm not sure I would be able to justify some of the larger ones for what I do, but I am absolutely hooked on these red sables for smaller work. They cost a bit more, but I would buy them again given the choice.

Poorly Manufactured Old Holland Brush
By Appreciates Quality
from West Hills, California
We purchased an Old Holland number 8 Filbert on November 28, 2011. This brush is one of 8 Old Holland brushes we have, and the first one we have had a problem with. In general the brushes are wonderful. Specifically the brush head fell off the handle today. We take excellent care of our brushes and have done nothing to cause the head to fall off. I have spent over an hour trying to find out who to contact concerning this, and there is no company listed with any search engine for other than Old Holland paint, which does not include brushes in its product support or lines. For a company with such glowing reviews of its products this does seem odd. We haven't decided yet what to replace this faulty brush with, but Old Holland seems unlikely, despite the pleasure of using the ones we have. 7 months of very light use, isn't worth the cost. The head fell off while we were checking our Old Holland brushes to see which sizes we have, before ordering additional brushes to compliment what we have, not from misuse.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

A fantastic brush line!
By RS Connett

These are brushes for the professional artist. They can be used with acrylics, as well as oils. They are, (in my opinion) the best sable brushes for acrylics. I use them for glazing, details. Every brush I have purchased in the past 5 years has been a "good one." I can see that the makers take great care with each. I have OH brushes that I purchased in 2005, STILL in use today, in 2010, almost as good as new. You must take great care in cleaning. If you do, these will reward you. I paint every day, professionally, and I give these brushes a heavy workout WITH acrylic paint! I'm very happy with Old Hollands brushes, and their line of acrylic paint too.

Comments about Old Holland Kolinsky Sable Bright Series 7003:
The perfect brush for blending and softening oil brush strokes. Bristles are neither too short nor too stiff. This brush has a comfortable "spring" and tends to hold its shape. Additional sizes would be nice to have.
THE BEST FOR MY PURPOSES
By Connett the Painter

I use these brushes with Acrylic paint. As long as you keep them wet, and clean, they will last for years holding their tip (rounds) I have rounds, brights and filberts that are 4 years old, with LOTS of use. They are still going strong. Other brands fair not as well. For use with acrylics, this is by far my highest recommendation.
