Now it's easy to bring the classic presence of custom wood frames to your artwork with these Ayous Wood Frame Kits. They are crafted of imported Italian woods and designed with a contemporary flat top profile for an attractive gallery look. The perfect depth for framing canvas, photographs, posters, or other artwork.
Kit includes one pair of wood sections and two plastic wedges. Choose two kits to create the custom frame you need. Easy assembly, no tools required.
Dimensions for the Nielsen Bainbridge Ayous Wood Frame Kits are as follows:
Frame Depth — The depth of a frame refers to the depth of the frame's rabbet (the cut-out area behind the frame's molding that holds your artwork in place). To find a frame that will accommodate your artwork, measure the depth of the artwork, including any matting or mounting materials, and order a frame with a depth that is, at a minimum, the same as that measured depth.
Frame Dimensions — Frames are sized by the opening, not by the outside of the molding. To determine the size of frame to order, measure the outside of your artwork, including mat, and order that size frame. The frame will overlap your artwork ¼" all the way around, so your artwork will fit nicely behind the frame's molding.

Comments about Nielsen Bainbridge Ayous Wood Frame Kits:
Two types of frames ordered. 30 x 40 assembled and 24 x 36 black sections. 30x40 came damagad. returned. customer service good. new frame arrived. damaged also. too late to reorder. hanging for show.tried to use frame anyway. canvas would not fit too big. YOUR canvas. total disaster for me.Sectional frame black. when assembled joints still visible. could not make corners join flush no matter what i did. not appropriate for $2,000 painting. total waste of my money. No problem with competitors frame of same type. they work fine. Yours forget it. never again.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Very poor quility. Not worth the money.
from Sun City, Ca.
I would not buy again. I'm surprised at the poor quality. I have purchased fro Dick Blick for many years and i was very surprised that they would even sell something like this frame.
from WA state
This is my fourth or fifth purchase of these frames. They have a classic look. I don't care for elaborate framing because I think is distracts from the actual art. These are really easy to put together - just one little bracket per corner - and yet, they are durable. And finally, the price is really reasonable.

I was somewhat disappointed in this product.
from Oshkosh, Wisconsin
the bare inside corners show when frame put together. so many times these type frames do not meet exactly so then the inside corners show. I should have painted them black.
I will buy this product again.
I really like the fit and finish of this frame section system. I have used it before and find it perfect for use with irregular sized canvas. It saves money over a custom frame which would be the only alternative for non standard canvas. More finishes would be great, white would be a welcome addition. Shipping sent the short sides (12") and the long side (24") in two separate boxes, in two separate mailings. Twice the trash/recycling.
Great product at a great price
from Houma, LA
I buy simple unfinished frames because I think a buyer will select his/her own style of frame. So, I choose not to put a lot of money in the frame. I like the unfinished frame since I can apply a finish apropos to the painting.

Great way to mail-order frames

Quality frame kits. Only problem is warping - some frame pairs come bent or twisted and make for a lot of work straightening them
from Washington state
As a professional artist, I've used these sectional frames many times. While they aren't in the same category as custom made frames; they are easy to assemble - comparable in price to other sectionals - and look really good.
Good for odd sizes
from Tiger, GA
I really don't know about the price value but if I had to custom a frame for the size I needed it would have been a lot more money. Based on that, - good deal! I am fussy about nicks and unpainted edges where the two pieces join (goes together super easy with a rubber mallet). I did have to paint some areas and sand some corners where they were off by a hair. It showed up in the black frame. If it was for home use, I wouldn't have bothered. The company almost has total quality management but off just enough to make me work to perfect the frame.
Bring back the dark brown color!!
By Nine stones
I generally like these frames - reasonable cost and easy to put together. But, big disappointment, Nielson Bainbridge has discontinued the dark brown color. I find the black frames flatten out a lot of my artwork and the natural tone is usually just too light. The dark brown (espresso) or red brown was always perfect. Please bring that color back!! Please?
