These bright, compact hardcover books introduce young readers to six visual building blocks via some of the great masterpieces of 20th century art.

Author Philip Yenawine, the longtime Director of Education at The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), is currently Co-Director of an education research organization called Visual Understanding in Education. In this series, Yenawine uses the resources of the MOMA to demystify art for young children by introducing them to the components of painting and sculpture.

Each book focuses on a different aspect of art and engages children's imaginations by posing such open-ended questions as "Can you imagine clouds?" or "Do you have any funny stories to tell in pictures?" or "Can you find circles, squares, triangles, and a cylinder in this picture?"

Notes at the back of each book provide brief background information that adults will find useful when talking with children about the paintings and sculptures reproduced in the books.

The MOMA Kid's Series books provide a sound basis for a child's first visits to museums, and will help children look for art in the world around them.
