Multimedia Artboard accepts both oil and water-based paints without buckling or warping. A new formulation of artboard, it is made with paper and thermal-set epoxy resin, allowing media to adhere to the surface without penetration. Whatever media you are using holds a definite edge, with no bleed.
The surface can be erased, scraped, and sanded, and both front and back are usable surfaces (one side is smoother than the other). Multimedia Artboard is laboratory-tested and is rated archival quality, with a neutral pH factor of 6.5. Boards are 1/32" (approximately 0.8 mm) thick.
Handling Charge — When ordering sheets of paper or board larger than 18” x 24” in quantities of less than 10, a $3.00 per order handling fee applies. Paper or boards may be assorted to reach the quantity of 10.

black printing papers
from Asheville, NC
Comments about Multimedia Artboards:
I use black printing papers to draw on with colored pencils. I'm sorry that Somerset Velvet Black paper is no longer available anywhere (so it seems), so am trying others that Dick Blick offers as a substitute.

Many of these products are used in my classroom by elementary age students. I love that the materials are versatile! Students are also learning what it means to create with quality materials, thus taking more ownership of their skills and abilities! The materials always arrive quickly and are never damaged!
Really like this surface
from Albuquerque NM
I really love this surface for water color & mixed media. Colors look rich & I like the way the brush responds to this surface. My only concern is that over time i have a few pieces that have become brittle & that makes it fragile & easy for the corners to chip. Nonetheless, I do like working on this surface.

practical good quality panel

I have recently begun using Multimedia Artboard based upon another professional acrylic painter's recommendation, and really like them. The surface is easy to paint on, smooth but with enough texture to hold paint. It does not require as much paint to cover since it is not as thick and porous as canvas. There are two different textures, one on each side. they are light and portable--a plus for plein-air painting.

I have never found anything quite like this. It works perfectly for acrylic, keeps completely flat when wet. I've also used it for watercolor, and sometimes collage sheets of decorative paper on top. It cuts well with scissors. You have to be a little careful not to chip off corners

I have spent much time looking for this type of product in Canada and none compares! The product was offered online only and the staff were most helpful in placing the order. In fact, I was overjoyed with my first experience in a Dick Blick store! The artboard was delivered exactly on time and I am thrilled to be using it.Excellent product!Excellent staff!Excellent experience!

Product damaged by its own label!
from San Francisco, CA
Not only is this artboard hard to work with--doesn't accept water or paint very easily--but the label inside the 5-pack damaged the surface of the top sheet so that it absorbed water excessively in a rectangular-shaped space at the top. So, the 5-pack becomes a 4-pack--that is, assuming the back sheet isn't similarly affected.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
A Hidden Gem
from La Crosse, WI
This artboard really is a great surface for mark making. I've saturated a single sheet several times with water-based media, gessoed it and started again without it buckeling or warping. The artboard's rigidness holds up well to repeated scaping and scrubbing and is good for multiple layers of acrylic mediums.
