One-fire decorating and glazing! Stroke & Coat is specially formulated for application on bisque. The ready-to-use colors stay true from jar to fired finish, and the colors are intermixable.
This glaze is perfect for controlled application over unfired glazes. Apply one coat for translucent effects, and three coats for rich, opaque coverage. All colors and glazes are non-toxic and dinnerware safe.
Cone 06–05 (1828°–1888°F, 998°C–1031°C).

Use Stroke and Coat for Elementary & Middle School Students

Comments about Mayco Stroke & Coat Wonderglaze for Bisque:
This glaze is easy to use and spread, water soluble, and can be kiln fired more than once if a student wanted to touch up the piece a second time. Buying more than 12 bottles, helps cut the cost.

DID THE JOB

Our kiln wasn't working working properly and we had to wait for it to get fixed for quite some time. In order to speed up the process, so the kids could get their pieces, we used the Mayco Stroke and Coat on dried unfired piece - which the product description states that this is possible. The pieces came out of the kiln with what looked like popped air bubbles all over them. However, the product works on bisque pieces without a glitch perfectly.
Merchant response: Thank you for your review. When using the Stroke & Coat on greenware, Mayco recommends leaving some part of the ware unglazed (the back of a tile or the foot of a bowl, for example) to provide an area where gases, which are released by the clay as it fires, can escape. If you've already done this and are still experiencing pinholes, you can also try slower firing, or doing a "soak" at the peak temperature. However, as you've found, bisque firing is the best guarantee of success, as the gases will have fired out of the clay before the glaze is even applied. If you have further questions on using these glazes or other materials, our Product Specialists are happy to assist you. They're available weekdays from 8am to 5:30pm CST at 1-800-933-2542 or firstname.lastname@example.org, and they're always eager to help!

Cutie Pie Coral and Pinkie Swear have quickly become favorites in my middle school Art room. They provide smooth opaque coverage. I also appreciate the ease of the squirt bottles to refill student glaze portion cups.
I love stroke and coat!
from San marcos, tx
I will apply stroke and coat on wet clay at the same time that I apply underglazes (underglaze first and glaze on top of that if overlapping). I use very fine stencils, and stroke and coat is SO STABLE that it maintains all of these fine lines and doesn't run! It is also incredibly opaque even on a dark brown clay body (be sure to use 3 coats for good coverage). I then bisque to cone 06 to get the stroke and coat to its minimum maturity, then apply any other glazes and fire to cone 5. The stroke and coat looks quite nice at cone 5 because the soften a little and lose that child's crayon box flatness. I have seen other artists take the stroke and coats to cone 10 and they still look beautiful! Dick Blick's pricing is THE BEST on stroke and coat. I saved 40% from what I would have paid at my local clay supply store.

This is a great variety pack to test out glazes and figure out how the colors look on your preferred clay body. Mayco Stroke n' Coats are fantastic with mixing and layering colors and my high school students favorite glaze!
