Masterpiece Heavy Duty Cross Braces are for use with Masterpiece Heavy Duty Stretcher Strips. Braces fit snuggly into the slots on the stretcher strips, and can be further wedged for an extra firm fit.
These professional grade braces are constructed with the same quality and care as Masterpiece stretcher strips. They are made of clear, solid fir, with no finger joints.
One set comes as a pair of braces, which fit between the stretcher strips and the internal Straight Brace. Size given is the outside dimension of the canvas frame. A Cross Set is never used without a Straight Brace. It is possible to use two or more Cross Sets on one long, rectangular canvas.
A brace spans the entire internal length of the canvas frame. Size given is the outer dimension of the canvas frame.

Perhaps it needs better instructions
from Santa Barbara, CA
Looked like a great idea, I do panoramic canvases and I thought it would be perfect to keep them braced a little better. But the cross braces are too short to stay in place while you're stretching. Instructions say nothing about how to use the keys, I assumed you put them in lightly before you stretch and then tighten with them. But they fall out because everything is loose. Then when the canvas is stretched it's too hard to get everything in and lined up. The cross braces are also slightly offset, so I can not see how they are supposed to line up with the slots in the sides. All in all a great idea but terrible execution. Like the title says, perhaps if they had better instructions.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your kit did not work out for you. The keys are inserted into the gaps of the bars after the canvas is stretched. This way, as the canvas may slacken over time, the keys can be driven into the gap to widen the frame and tighten the canvas stretch. A member of our Customer Care team will contact you to see if we may assist you with a return or exchange for another product that may better meet your needs.
Solid Stretcher Bars, Bad Braces
from Phoenix, Oregon
I like how the braces are designed, but the ones I ordered are just a little too large and I couldn't get the stretcher bars square when using them. Good thing these bars are really sturdy and in the smaller and medium size canvases you probably don't need 'em anyway.
