I had purchased this palette in the larger size and liked it, although I had some trouble with the mixing tray int he lid falling out whenever I opened it. I finally put some blue tape underneath and it works fine now. But this smaller version is fabulous. It fits perfectly in the Judson Art Outfitters Laptop Journaling Easel. It has 18 wells and that's more than sufficient for travel painting. So I love it for that. I bought an extra so that I can keep that one at home.

It is advertised as leakproof but it's not. I just used it for the first time and my phthalo blue leaked out all over everything in my art bag. It took me over an hour to clean up but phthalo blue is a stain so there is a permanent mess. On a better note , I do like it's set up.

I enjoy the size of this palette for small paintings, up to half-sheet watercolors. I like the air tight closure, and the generous paint wells. I also like the low dam at the front, so it holds the pigment, yet you can easily slide the brush into the color and back out to the mixing area.

I would prefer a less staining plastic in the mixing areas, and I don't care for mixing on the clear insert. If it was white, it would be even more useful. By the way, stains do come off fairly easily with a wipe of Masters brush cleaner and reconditioner.

The palette is also small enough to go into a tote bag for on site sketching and painting. That's another plus, along with the reasonable price.

I bought the 24-well palette, as my first palette for a watercolor class. It worked very well, and my teacher complimented it. I used the top 12 wells for colors and left the rest to mix colors. I squeezed tube paint into the wells and let them cake dry. It closes easily, feels nice and sturdy, has plenty of space to squeeze in paint, and I felt it had adequate mixing space. I feel like I'll be able to use this palette for a long time.

The one problem, is that it has stained. In fact, it stained on one of the first days I used it. It seems to only be the one color in my set though; none of the other colors have stained it at all, and I've used it for a whole semester, but that blue, wherever it seems to smear, it leaves uncleanable stains. I think it's my Van Gogh Pthalo Blue. So, just a warning; if you're concerned about keeping your palette stainless as long as possible, do some tests with the paints you intend to use, maybe on the backside corner of the white palette (you can pop the white palettes out), to see if any of them stain easily.

I agree that the lock-close mechanism doesn't feel as secure as I'd like, but it has yet to bust open and leak everywhere for me.

I bought this palette to use as extra mixing space for when I paint outside in watercolor, as my paintbox is super small with little mixing space. This really is perfect for that use. I have not had a problem with leaking at all. My only slight complaint is that the snap/tab closure doesn't close very tightly. Worried that it might open and leak all over my bag, I just keep a rubber band around it. No problems at all!

I put a little wc paint in each well so that I would not have to carry tubes. However, because of suitcase handling, the paint came out of wells onto inside of lid. I guess the only way to use it is either to pack tubes (not a good idea) or to perhaps but a sheet of cling wrap in between lid and bottom. Also, the top does not latch. Closes but does not latch. Bad design. One good thing, it did not leak.

I bought the 24-well size Mijello airtight palette box and am very impressed by the nice substantial feel it has to it and the layout and size of the slanted wells (approx 1" x 1 1/4" ea).
What I especially like is that it doesn't take up a lot of room on my work table like some larger palettes have done. When you flip it closed, it's very compact and neat looking.
The only thing I would do over is get the 33 well one instead, to have more room to grow, but otherwise, I love it and Dick Blick has the best price anywhere for it!
