Welcome to dickblick
Great for drawing, writing, and note-taking, these stylish mechanical pencils have a mechanism that automatically advances the lead — no more clicking! Because the right amount of lead is always at hand, you'll also have fewer broken leads.
Maped Black'Peps Automatic Feed Mechanical Pencils have a soft non-slip grip, and an eraser with cap. The lead retracts into the pencil's metal tip for safe storage and transport.

Great "Quick Grab" Mechanical Pencil
from Dallas, TX
Comments about Maped Black'Peps Automatic Feed Mechanical Pencil:
I picked up this mechanical pencil in a two-pack at a local store after seeing it in the new fall Blick catalog. I was originally skeptical because of the low price, but I usually work with .7 mm mechanical pencils and knew that I would at least find use in the lead refills. As a previous review stated, the design is comfortable. However, the aesthetics, in my opinion, are a bit more contemporary and somewhat susceptible to age unlike other "timeless" designs such as the Pentel Sharp. Looks aside, the grip has a nice forgiving feel that reduces fatigue much the same as a Pentel Twist or Pilot Dr. Grip. I find extended drawing sessions easier thanks to the design of the segmented grip. Using bond or ultra-smooth tracing paper allows this pencil to truly shine. On Canson translucent sketch paper, the lines created by the Maped Black Peps are smooth and dark, cross-hatching is uniform, and smudging is minimal if not a pleasing after affect. The "automatic" feature of the Maped Black Peps is a bit strange. I particularly like the way that a single "click" allows the lead to be extended to a usable point and that few subsequent "clicks" are required to maintain a point; however, noticeable shortening of the exposed lead occurs -- which may be a drawback for some artists/designers. That said, I can't fault a "near-automatic" .7 mm mechanical pencil with a comfortable grip for such a minor infraction. And at such a low price, the Maped is a great choice for a bargain hunter or artist seeking a "change up" pencil for his/her stable. Bottom Line: Pick up a couple of the Maped Black Peps Mechanical Pencils from Blick today -- you'll be glad you did.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

OK mechanical pencil
This is a lightweight, comfortable pencil with a moderately thick grip, which will help alleviate hand discomfort during long drawing sessions. My main issues with this pencil are that it neither automatically feeds nor seemingly retracts, not really dealbreakers but this pencil is what it is, a cheap mechanical pencil with a fairly cool design.
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. To retract the tip of this pencil, simply click and hold the manual feed button; then while holding the tip against a rigid surface, slide the barrel of the pencil forward and release the click button. As for the automatic feed, you will find that this pencil operates with a surprisingly small amount of lead protruding — the tip will almost look more like a ballpoint pen than a mechanical pencil. As long as you simply keep using it and resist the temptation to click the lead out to the extent you may be accustomed to seeing, it will continue to advance as you write or draw.
