In today's technology-driven world, what does it mean to "look at a picture"?
It means something very different from only a decade ago. Instead of holding a piece of Kodak paper and viewing the reflected image, invariably "looking at a picture" now often means turning on a smartphone screen or an iPad or a laptop and seeing a very different, backlit image.
To recognize and celebrate the way our brains perceive and process this new way of seeing color, Maimeri embarked on an ambitious project to bring this intense color experience to the artist's palette.
Originally conceived as an acrylic project, it soon became apparent that an acrylic resin could not provide the brightness and intensity that was necessary for the concept, so a finely tuned mixture of traditional oils became the vehicle of choice. The result is Maimeri HD Oils, an extremely bright collection of 29 transparent colors, all lightfast except for the two fluorescent colors.
For the first time in Maimeri's color-making history, all of the colors have names in the English language only, reflecting a modern, hi-tech take on color intended to entice younger artists to experiment with oil paint.
Unless painting in thick layers, Olio HD can be expected to dry under normal conditions in 24 to 48 hours.
In keeping with Maimeri's commitment to being environmentally responsible, Olio HD tubes are 100% recyclable Coex plastic with transparent areas so that the paint color can be readily seen by the artist.

Intense purity at a great value
By Happy Painter
Comments about Maimeri Olio HD Oil Colors:
I was intrigued by the description of this new paint and bought a couple of tubes to try. The tubes are quite large, making this paint a great value. The colors are pure and intense. I have used this paint in very thin layered glazes of bright colors for some large abstract paintings. The paint flows nicely and maintains its intensity even when spread out very thin. The colors remain vibrant and clear even when layered one over the other (allowing each layer to dry first). This is just what I was looking for.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I was looking for a "clear" gel that I could paint with. I bought some from a few different manufacturers. This one, for me, was the best of the lot. It is crystal clear and acts as a gel. The other ones were either cloudy or yellowy. I only wish it was a bit smoother. It went on a little "choppy". It takes a while to dry too. I suppose i could add in a drier to speed up that problem.

Bought these out of curiosity because I am really interested in bright colors. Did not realize they were so thin but it turns out they are perfect for glazing and creating a very bright depth. I have fallen in love and I'm ordering more colors. These paints are great fun.

Strange Consistency, Almost unworkable
By Howard Roark
from Rochester, NY
I got a few of these colors because I've used Maimeri paints before and I'm very happy with what I have used; up until these. The colors running out of the tubes were almost liquid making it very difficult to use with a palette knife and when applied to a canvas they don't hold texture well because of this liquidity. I would not recommend. The colors go on bold but fade as it dries.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: The Maimeri Oil HD colors are formulated with very fluid and bright drying oils. The result is a soft-bodied paint unlike typical oils. The consistency lends itself well to techniques requiring thin layers such as glazing. If you are not satisfied with this paint, you may contact us and we will help you return or exchange this for another paint that will better meet your needs. Love this Paint!
from South Dakota
I have been using this paint both with and without mediums for glazing techniques. The transparency of the paint is wonderful, it really allows you to build up paint, and achieve a nice luminous feeling of depth.
