Magic Mud Clay

Comments about K-play Magic Mud Multi-Project Pack:
I am a K-6 art teacher and bought this because I thought it would be a good value for my students. It is terribly sticky at first, then extremely dusty. It is the worst clay project I ever have used in my 11 years of teaching at the elementary level. I will never use it again. Do not purchase this, Crayola Air Dry clay is much better.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have used this clay for my classes ranging from 2nd grade to 7th grade and every time I let it air dry at least half of the projects break and crumble. Awful for air dry clay. When it does dry and crumbles it gets everywhere in my classroom and spreads.
Merchant response: We're sorry to hear that you didn't have a good experience with this clay. Magic Mud, because it can be fired, in many ways resembles a ceramic clay body. It's important that the clay not be overworked, and it must dry slowly. We do offer other types of air-dry clays which, although they cannot be fired, are more user-friendly and resistant to cracking. Please know that our Product Specialists are available to discuss these other options, or to offer tips on using the Magic Mud to its best advantage. Please feel welcome to call us at 1-800-933-2542 (weekdays 8am-5:50pm CST) or firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to hearing from you!

I have a small wheel and kiln at home and enjoy doing the occasional project but do not keep a large supply of clay. Blick sends what I need (the quantity) in a reasonable time frame so that I do not have to worry about a large stockpile.

I loved this Product

I used this product in my art class (7th grade) and everyone's projects came out wonderfuly. My only complaint was it stained my tables. Everyone made different things and I made a picher.

My students made some wonderful things with this clay that CLAIMED to air dry. We let things dry for two weeks! The minute they picked up their items or tried to paint with tempera or acrylics, it crumbled under the moisture. Can you imagine preschoolers and k-8 being disappointed beyond belief!!!??? My big regret is that I ordered 4 loaves and it's too heavy to send back/return. The return costs prevent me from ordering something in it's place.

I used magic mud with my pre-kindergarten class (16 students). The students were all super excited to use this product. After showing them a few techniques, the students were able to use the clay with ease. The class made pinch pots and I was quite impressed with their work. I will definitely use this product again!
