Having worked to long on table surfaces, I broke down and bought an easel for use with oils (both pastels and paint). This small and light wonder holds steady, is crafted beautifully, and offers the bonus of a place to hold a pastel box or palette. I bought Mabef on reputation alone and was not disappointed. Blick, as always having a superb price, made this possible.

The only drawback I have found is if you keep the main structure of the canvas holder low and tilted, it makes the use of the box/palette supports difficult--it tilts into the plane, causing you to lower the supports to a level that is inconvenient. This is by no means a big deal and finding ways around it is not overly difficult.

This is one of the rare easels designed to also hold a pastel box. Very convenient and stores well. I wish it had a shoulder strap for carrying, though. Also, this easel weighs about 5 pounds, not 23 as stated. Who would carry a 23 pound easel all around? Maybe that was shipping weight.
