Welcome to dickblick
Based mostly on single pigment colors, this small line of opaque watercolor gouache is a professional's dream. Every color is dense, rich, and highly pigmented. No fillers, opacifiers, or adulterants alter the nature of the colors.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, French artists like Boucher, Watteau, and Chardin often worked in gouache, while the English favored transparent watercolor. Now M. Graham has bridged two cultures with a new line of gouache that is based on the same pigments as its watercolor formulas. The opaque matte finish can stand alone, or be combined with transparent watercolor to create permanent works of art.
In addition to gum arabic, which is used as a binder in all other professional gouaches, M. Graham adds pure natural honey. Honey prevents cracking and increases flow and moistness.
Basic Set of 5
An excellent starter palette, this set contains five 15 ml colors including Azo Yellow, Naphthol Red, Cobalt Blue, Ivory Black, and Titanium White.

I'm new to gouache

I like this gouache but I have never used this medium before. In order to get the colors I wanted I mostly stuck with this brand. So far I'm liking it quite a bit

Best rewetable gouach on the market! Talens will be my second choice.
from Sacramento, CA
I've recently converted from soft pastel to goauche painting and am so thrilled to find an opaque re-wettable medium that can created detailed work. After researching a variety of brands and weighing costs, M Graham turned out to be the most suitable because of its honey humectant, variety of artist's rather than designers' gouache, and reasonable price range. Dick Blick has the least expensive price that I found online.

Outstanding color, no chalk
from San Diego
I've tried other gouache brands, except Schminke, and this one is the absolute best I've tried. The color intensity and pigment load are incredible, and when they dry, the richness remains. No chalky after-effects. The darkest darks remain velvety and intense. The thing I love most about this brand compared to others, is how well it re-wets in half pans. I paint plein air, and I carry a sketchbox everywhere with half pans that I filled with M. Graham gouache. It re-wets and functions beautifully, no scrubbing necessary to load the brush and lay on gorgeous color. Other brands, regardless of cost, won't perform like this. I'm told that Schminke is equally good at rewetting, but why pay twice the cost?

Student Artist's Choice
from Rockville, MD
The items purchased were a gift for a college freshman who is an art major. These were the things used by her professor; thus, I have to conclude that they are the best.A proud grandmother of a fantastic student and artist.

Good Quality but some colors don't mix w
from Irvine, CA
I bought this gouache and am currently using them for 2D/3D design class. Most of the colors are fanatic on their own, but the cadmium yellow, cadmium red, and naphthol red do not seem to mix well with other colors. The yellow makes a sort of muddied green when mixed with blue and they are much darker than the primary green, at least two shades darker, and you can't get a nice violet when you mix the reds with the blues, they turn out more brownish violet. Our first project was to make a color wheel, most of the class had a lot of difficulty making green, and yellow green. Violet, red violet and red did not come out well either. However, the secondary orange is cadmium orange straight out of the tube. (which is wonderful less mixing for everyone!) The blue, blue green and blue violets came out great as well, so it seems to be that only the reds and the yellow had something weird about it with mixing.Windsor & Newton Designer Gouache seem better suited for your primary color mixing needs. I still like this product though and they are of course a little bit more affordable than the Windsor Newton. So you get what you pay for I guess. The paint seems a little thinner and stickier at times? Maybe because of the honey in the formula? Anyways, good product if you don't mind a little muddied colors when mixing.
