Great Pencil; Not as Cheap in the US

Comments about Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor Premium Oil-Based Colored Pencils:
These pencils came recommended by several of my favorite YouTubers. I purchased a set on another site, then came to Blick to fill in some missing colors. (The 36-set doesn't have pinks and purples, oddly enough.) The pencils I received from Blick were fantastic. The colors are bright and vivid, and the laydown is quite smooth. They don't layer and blend as easily as some of my other favorite pencils (Prismacolor, Polychromos, and even Blick Studio.)My only problem with these pencils is the price for the sets and the individual pencils. For this price point, they're only average. In fact, I'd buy Blick Studio again over the Lyra, but Lyra is a great product if you're looking for something that's not quite as soft as Prismacolor. They do have a little dust, though. None of the pencils arrived broken, and none of them have broken while sharpening.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have used other brands of oil pencils in the past. These are very fine quality, vibrant colors.

I have a lot of Prismacolor pencils (berol, sanford and premier) that I've worked with, but found their tenancy to get waxy rather annoying when building up layers. These pencils are much softer and dryer than the Prismacolors. I found this surprising considering they are oil based, but they produce lovely soft layers and transitions of color. I don't think I could replace my Prismas with these since they have a rather tough time getting really dark, but I could certainly see using them in tandem. If you were to use a mix, I would suggest putting the Polycolor *under* the Primsacolor - they don't like to work the other way around. They are rather pricey, but worth the splurge for a smaller range of values to play around with for soft backgrounds, transitions and the like.
As good as higher priced pencils
I use a number of different brands of color pencils, and the Lyras are my favorites. They are oil based, and they allow you to get smooth, even coverage without wearing your hand out with hard pressure. They layer well, and they will write on acrylic paint which wax based pencils don't do well. For the record, wax based pencils like Prismacolor Premiers have their place, and they are lovely pencils. But if your budget will allow only one kind, hen get the Lyras. You won't be disappointed.
I like these pencils.

I have the Rembrandt's as part of a larger collection including the CdA Luminance and the FC Polychromos. The three of them work well in harmony with each other. The Rembrandts, while being an oil based coloured pencil, like the Polychromos, are a little harder and work nicely for layering and building colour as well as for some final detail. If one hasn't the funds to purchase either of the more expensive products, these would be the pencil of choice. Additionally, their LightFast ratings are top notch!
exactly what i wanted
