Logan's hand-held mat cutters are all made of high-tech aluminum alloys and have a reputation for quality and dependability. They are comfortable for both left-handed and right-handed users.
All the cutters use Logan's Style #270 blades. Series 2000, 3000, and 4000 make precise 45° beveled cuts. The 3000 and 4000 models can be upgraded, with the addition of nylon glides in the Logan Accessory Kit, to work with the Logan 301 Compact Mat Cutter and the Logan 750 or 760 Simplex Mat Cutters.
Contains nylon bearing and screws for attaching the 2000, 3000, 4000, or 701 to a rail or board (not included).
For use with Logan's handheld Series 2000 and Series 4000 mat cutters, Model 500 Mat Knife, 701-1 Straight Cutter Elite, plus the 424-1 and 440-1 Team System Plus, Compact Classic, 350-1 Compact Elite, 450-1 Artist Elite, and 750-1 and 760-1 Simplex Elite mat cutters.
The 2000 push-style cutter with retractable blade features a start-and-stop indicator for accurate corners.
This pull-style, professional cutter has a fingertip operated, pivoting blade holder. A start-and-stop indicator controls overcuts. Also has a special built-in marker system for quickly marking borders from ¼" to 5½" wide.

Learning to use but it works as described. Came with the Logan 750 Mat cutter I purchased at the Local Blick Store.

Logan Mat Cutter Accessory purchase
By Mad Jack Flint
from Portland, OR.
Some time ago I lost the original cutter for a Logan Compact Classic mat cutter. Finding the replacement cutter was easy at the local Blick Art store. Purchase made - done deal - sort of. When I used the cutter for the first time, I noticed the "guides" that match a special track on the "guide bar" were missing. Seems Logan does not include those special guides in the replacement cutter packaging. Back to the store I went, but the "guide feet" are not a shelf-stock item. Neither are they special order - but they must be ordered online. Finding the pieces online was time consuming, as I did not have a part number nor the correct nomenclature. (Still don't as you can tell, they are simply an "accessory kit.") Eventually the correct parts were located on a (somewhat obscure) sub web page and ordered. The inexpensive shipping option actually had the items in my (snail) mail box in very short order. Bully for them. It's great to have the mat cutter back in it's original as-purchased configuration. Now it's time to complete the framing projects. Overall, very happy with the service and speed of the shipping. If it wasn't for needing an obscure item, I'm sure the entire research-to-purchase phase would have gone much more quickly.

Effective and easy to use

This simple tool makes cutting a mat on a perfect bevel very simple. I found a very nice video demonstrating it's use on the Logan website, and, while my skills are not as good as those of the guy in the video, it worked perfectly and I ended up with a pretty professional-looking mat. For someone that is not used to cutting mats and does not do this very often, this simple tool is worth the relatively low cost. Definitely worth the money.

Proof even a novice can cut a mat
from Minneapolis, MN
I knew nothing about cutting mats--except that I needed to do it. The Logan hand-held pull cutter fit my budget and worked great for the project. The only issue I have with the cutter (and why I didn't give it 5 stars), is that the instructions included are very poorly written. They are vague and skip steps, etc. so, as a result it took me much longer to figure out what I needed to do to make things look good.As a side note, be sure you have something substantive (ie: sturdier than a yardstick) to use as a straight edge if your cutting pieces roughly larger than 8 x 10.
Exactly what I wanted

Model 2000 did not cut through 4-ply mat
I bought the Logan 2000 cutter and a full-sized mat board after an employee at the store said I could use that particular cutter to cut the openings of my mats. I paid extra to have the employee cut the board into smaller pieces (~22 cuts). I followed the cutter directions carefully and consulted the video, but could not get the blade to go all the way through my 4-ply mat. I was hoping to save money, but I ended up wasting the cost of the cutter, full-sized mat board, and labor. I still cannot frame my nonstandard sized pictures. I live too far away to return the cutter. So disappointing.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
