I always thought there must be something high tech about cutting the perfect mat for a piece of art. After I was GIVEN several thousand pieces of matboard, I didn't feel I had a choice but to investigate the possibility of owning some form of mat cutter. A student from the studio owned the 750 Simplex. She brought it in, showed me how, I flipped out at how easy it was to cut a perfect bevel. I purchased my 760 within a week. It has added a new dimension to the art produced at the studio. And how cool is it that each artist has that available to them? The replacement blades are very inexpensive. This is probably the best purchase I have made for the studio to date.

I use the Logan 750 at least 3 times a week in my small photo print business. However, I have 20+ years in mechanical engineering and machine shops and I can certainly spot a quality product such as this when I see it. Its design has been thought out carefully and unlike so many things these days, has been fitted with adjustment points to accommodate wear that may come from repeated use over the years. The instructions on its basic use are detailed and it operates very smoothly. The only flaw is the "straight cutting tool" method. Personally, a rotary blade is a far better way to go when cutting off pieces of a large matte. Of course, a rotary blade would not be able to cut inside corners, but some sort of angle 'stamp', or 'press' cutting device could be made to cut the inside corners when used in adjunct to a rotary blade. At any rate, the straight cutter deflected at least 1/64" at the start point after I had got into the cut about 1". Granted, I did not try this too many times to maybe get a little better at it, but as far as the matte I was cutting is concerned, it was a standard 4 ply and I really didn't have the time to play with the straight cutter too much. Anyway, the angled matte cutting tool was great and it certainly ended the problem I would have with 'walking' in the start of my cuts because of that great little pin that Logan added to their tool. I had a very basic 24" Logan cutter before this 750 and always had that 'walking' problem because they had omitted the "guide pin" from that cutter. I think they should include a pin of that kind in all of their cutters. In fact, it was this Guide Pin that I particularly liked when I was shopping for another matte cutting machine that sold me on buying another Logan. So, other than the straight cutting tool, I thought the Logan 750 was absolutely a great buy and was even surprised that they didn't charge more for such a well made machine.

The Logan 750 Mat Cutter was bought for our Fine Arts Club, whose members had never used a mat cutter before. Our budget was $200, and we wanted a good cutter that could take abuse by inexperienced users. The cutter was easy to assemble and use, and the first cut mat came out perfectly and looks very good. We're quite satisfied, and should get many years of use from this cutter; it was money well spent.

I just retired and needed a hobby. Photography has always interested me and I began my new interest about 6 months ago. Realizing that matting can be expensive if you buy the pre-cut mats, I decided to buy my own cutter. The VERY first mat I cut with my new 750 was absolutely perfect as was the next 6 that I cut the first night! Assembly was simple. The DVD was concise and accurate. I am totally pleased with the product!

I decided to finally purchase a mat cutter and Logan's was pretty standard. I splurged and bought the 750. The assembly was ok, but do read the instructions carefully (there are few tricky parts especially with the rail guide assembly) and watch the video ahead of time: it helps. After watching the DVD, I managed to cut a couple of practice mats. They came out ok, but it takes practice. That said, throwing a simple mat around your artwork (weather drawing, a print, etc.) makes a difference. I think the price is a bit high for what the device is, but it seems to do the job.
