Logan's Simplex mat cutters are similar in design to professional framer's machines, but without the heavy bulk and big price tag. The 760 Simplex is built to handle bigger projects. The machines are designed for cutting standard thickness 4-ply matboard.

Simplex cutters have production stops to control overcuts, eliminating the need for measuring and marking, and an anti-crawl pin that keeps the mats absolutely still. The 27" (70 cm) squaring arm ensures square cuts without the need for drawn lines. A parallel mat guide with aluminized channels gives extra stability and accuracy.

Its gray laminated board surface is 60½" long (154 cm) to accommodate large projects. Uses style #270 blades. FOB factory. Additional shipping charges apply.

I have never used another mat cutter and really can not compare it to others. The machine screws that were supposedly mounted to the board to allow mounting of the measuring/squaring rail were missing. I emailed Logan and the screws were mailed and arrived within 5 days. I watched the DVD provided and tried cutting a few mats. If the DVD instructions are followed exactly, it cuts perfect mats! A few of my beginner mistakes included: forgetting to put a piece of scrap mat board behind the mat being cut, if you don't do this the blade can not extend completely and the corners are'nt perfect; not keeping firm downward pressure while cutting, the blade has a tendency to ride up while cutting giving a less than perfect cut; measuring incorrectly; cutting the board on the wrong side! After a few mis-steps, mat cutting is now going flawlessly. I have cut between 20 and 30 double mats which are all perfect. I would give this item a 5 if there were not two faults. The item came without all parts packaged. The straight edge cutter requires unscrewing the blade to put it in the safety position or to extend the blade for cutting foam board. This is both tedious and dangerous. I would be willing to pay several dollars more for a straight cutter similar to the bevel cutter. The straigt cutter should have a button retractable safety and a mechanism to allow the blade to slide forward for sizing mat board and foam board. All and all I am happy with my purchase. I am very pleased with the mats that have been produced.

There is a learning curve involved. The line on the cutter is not precise if no overcut is the goal. Trial and error will soon determine the adjustment that must be made. Ergonomics and construction are excellent.

Blick Art is an excellent company. This was my first purchase from them, and it was a perfect transaction---promptness, packaging, and cooperation of the staff was commendable.

It makes cutting up matboards a breeze. I love it for that. The guide bar is not held down and the mats are somewhat difficult to hold in place while cutting windows. Otherwise, I enjoy it very much.

The bevel cutter Start/Stop line is off by about .25 inches. For the price, this should be lined up, because that is one of the most important attributes of a matt cutter - making sure that there is not an overcut. The quality control of this Logan cutter is poor.

I've purchased a 750 from a Blick store before (and my ex-wife is still using it), and had no trouble (except that the ex-wife got it). It was perfect, no complaints during two years of use.

THIS one, however, arrived and instantly gave me grief. Nothing seemed to line up. The straight cutter sliced into the base on cut #1. I went through the manual's recommended procedures to square and parallel everything, but still it gave me mixed results. I finally made some adjustments which were not suggested in the literature, and now everything lines up beautifully--but the measuring scale for the mat edges is now off. While I can compensate for it by adding a constant for adjustment, it's frustrating that I have to.
