The Simplex Elite is a sizing tool, trimmer, and mat cutter in one. Ideal for sizing mat board and foam board, this versatile, baseboard-mounted mat cutter is also great for cutting glass and acrylic Plexiglas sheets, and for trimming paper and photos.

Available in two lengths, the Simplex Elite features a hinging guide rail with production stops, a parallel mat guide in aluminum channels, a 27" (69 cm) squaring arm with production stop, and an optional flush-cut squaring arm.

Also included are bevel and straight cutting heads, an 8-ply bevel cutter, a glass cutter, an acrylic Plexiglas cutter, a paper trimmer, the updated Complete Guide to Home Picture Framing, and an instructional DVD.

The Simplex Elite uses #270 or #271 replacement blades and the #786 glass wheel.

Blade #270 — For use with Logan's handheld cutters and the Logan 301, Logan 450, Logan 550‑1, Logan 560‑1, Logan 701‑1, Logan 750, Logan 750‑1, Logan 760, Logan 760‑1, and the Logan Team System cutters.

Blade #271 — A single-edge razor blade, for use with the Model 5000 8-Ply Mat Cutter, Logan 750‑1, and the Logan 760‑1.

I just finished using this product to cut 165 mats over the past week and a half. I am very pleased with the results, especially for never having cut mats before. It is a very solid product, and I would recommend it to anyone (I already have). As long as you pay attention to the details, you'll get great results.

If you use the Logan 750 and you're cutting any mat thicker than 4ply with a C5000 mat cutter, be sure to use a #271 single edge blade, not the #270 double edge blade. The #270 will bend every time and the cut will show all kinds of waves, much to your dismay. I learned this the hard way after ruining a bunch of 6ply boards.
You also need to check the squareness of the arm after a series of cuts, because the single screw system isn't sufficient to keep the arm from getting out of line.
