Logan first introduced the 450 Intermediate+ Mat Cutter (originally the Model 401) in 1998. Offering full-size (40") capacity and a unique, heavy-duty pull-style bevel cutting head, the Intermediate+ is known by artists around the world as an easy, accurate, and value-priced mat cutting system.

Logan's next-generation Model 450-1 Artist Elite Mat Cutter offers even more features, at the same price as the original 450!

The 450-1 Artist Elite features a 40" (101 cm) board, capable of cutting full 32" × 40" (81.3 cm × 101.6 cm) sheets of standard-thickness matboard, a hinged guardrail, a mat guide for border widths from ¾" (2 cm) to 5½" (14 cm), and a heavy-duty pull-style bevel cutter with anti-crawl pin.

Also included are a new adjustable-depth pivoting straight cutter, aluminum channel guides, and a removable 20" (51 cm) measuring bar with a production stop for the straight cutter. The squaring bar holds matboards at a 90° angle for straight cutting. Two guiderail stops are also included for production cutting.

Designed for artists, photographers, crafters, and framers, the Logan 450-1 Artist Elite cuts standard thickness (4-ply or 1.4 mm) mat boards only. Five #270 Blades are included.

The paper instructions are not very good except for the part in squaring the device. But online instructions, and an enclosed DVD are the way to go, especially videos on YouTube on cutting double mats, v-cuts, etc. The cutting board is probably pressed wood under the veneer and it sort of wobbles, which others have mentioned; but with a 40" plus span of pressed wood what do you expect. One corner should have an adjustable bumper. The hinged guide rail is great. Great guides and rulers. Bevel cutting head is great. Straight cutting head is plastic and feels cheap being so light in weight...it would be like cutting a beard with a sharp feather. I understand that it use to be metal...go back to metal, please! I called Logan to see what v-groover worked with the 450-1 and they wrote back that 703 v-groover worked, but they no longer make it...what! A great buy for the price! Too bad Logan doesn't make a medium all aluminum mat cutter. Buy it from Dickblick and you won't go wrong!

If you are wanting to cut several mats at a time, this is not the cutter for you. Also, if you are planning on cutting mats smaller than 8x10, do NOT buy this one. The unit only has a very short straightening bar which does not allow for anything smaller than 8x10 to actually line up with it. The measuring bar is not high quality, but will work if you are only cutting a few mats. I had problems with it wanting to pop out since the rubber foot on the stop did not perfectly match height of unit.

I returned my unit for the 550-1 and could not be happier. So if you're going to be cutting a lot, cutting smaller mats, then go up one and spend the extra the few bucks. It will save you a lot headaches & save you a lot quarters if you a cursing jar.

Cut Mat board down to size and into mats for my pictures. It is easy to use and the instructional video explains how to use this product as well as can be done.

The product was delivered in less than 3 days!
The assembling directions are good and the product is easy to assemble.
It is a high quality product. You can feel it when you start assembling it. The only thing I don't fully like is the instability of the measuring bar, which holds with a pin. Because it is long, kind of moves more than I would like. But nothing that should stop you from getting this product.

They really meaning when they say, make sure you are putting only one blade! They stick together and it is really easy to put two without realizing. Best strategy, count you have 4 left in the box after you set one.
