Comments about Loew-Cornell Utility Brush Sets:
They shed bad, bad purchase, you are constantly picking pieces out of your painting. Will throw out, waste of money.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The white synthetic brushes are workhorses in my studio. Never had any problems with shedding, unlike natural bristle brushes. I was really impressed with the quality of these brushes, given the price.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Too many bristles left on canvas
I would have loved it if these longer bristled brushes would not shed. Unfortunately the bristles were falling all over the place on canvas, easel and floor. I will not be able to use them.
Smooth coats of gesso/varnish everytime.

I love these nylon chip brushes. They are great for when you need a super smooth, thin coat of gesso or varnish. Using these brushes reduces the amount of sanding I do between coats. They dry quickly after cleaning AND, they are so inexpensive that if you wait a little too long to clean them, it isn't a heartbreak to throw them away. They can be a little hard to find, so I am thrilled when I find them in stock!

Great for thin, smooth coats of gesso on wood!

The first time painting a background with these brushes left lots of stray hairs. The breaking point was when one of the screws dropped out of the ferrel and into the paint. Cheap price matches the quality.

Brush Away Those Tears
Surprised at the negativity here. Love the brown nylon set and have been using for years. OK, they're not top of the line, but for my purposes that's not what I need. And that's not what I'm going to pay for either. Used these basically for laying out large areas and for gesso application. Never noticed bristle fallout as has been mentioned nor have I experienced color bleed from brush color. Yes, bristles will eventually get "gnarly." When that happens, I'll comb out and cut off those that get especially wiry. All's I know is that I bought a nylon brush set from a large hardware chain (guess!), and at four times the price they were SO inferior to these Loew-Cornell babies. In my experience, these brushes stood up to heavy use over a number of years, and for the price that is one sweet deal.

Not recommended, unless you'd enjoy plucking a few dozen bristles off of your painting!
Not what I expected
from metro boston
I purchased several sets of these brushes to use when a light wash of color is needed. The bristles come off easily, however, no matter how lightly used. I thought perhaps an initial washing might get rid of any loose bristles but unfortunately the problem persists. These can most likely be used by children, but not for canvas or adult use with acrylic or watercolor.

Beware of the Brown
from Chicago, IL
I like these brushes for varnishing, but I recently used the brown vinyl and the brush started bleeding a yellowish tint into my varnish. I should have tested the brush beforehand... Bottom line - stay away from the brown.
Great value brush for the messy jobs

Great for applying gesso, acrylic mediums and varnishing. A workshorse around the studio. The hairs are soft and do not gauge lines into your painting. Plus the hairs stay on the brush. I love these sets and go through quite a few.
