We loved using these in group activities! Easier to clean than the plastic ones, and much more durable. Handles are easy to hold, and they look professional too! Thank you!!
Size 1 Small is 2-1/4" long - FYI (For me, that's a medium)
I bought a dozen of these for a class I plan to teach. I knew I was taking a gamble on the size, since the length of the size 1 small is not listed. The edges are nearly as smooth as the competitor and although the blade surface isn't the same mirror finish, it's very smooth. The blade is not welded to the shaft - it's all one piece. The one immediate negative that I see is that these are not nearly as flexible as the Loew-Cornell J-1 that I was hoping to duplicate at a cheaper price. And it's an inch longer. These may work for students (hopefully!) and they will make a nice alternative to using my better knives to pry up the staples holding down my watercolors. Who knows, I may learn to paint with a stiffer knife, but for me half the fun of knife painting is that sensation of the blade bouncing off the canvas.
Good for the price

Good, durable knives for the cost. Won't rust. Oils work well with them too. They're a tad sharp around the edges, especially the larger ones. Flexible. Good for scraping the canvas, panel, etc.
My favorite Knives!

These knives are great- I tend to be pretty hard on palette knives, and these little babies hold up to the beating I give them! I have a pile of knives from this brand, and despite ordering new ones every season or so, my old ones hold up as well! Super cheap, but well made and comfortable to handle.

Replacement painting knives fine; thanks Liquitex!
from NE Georgia
My earlier review complained that the handles of the painting knives I bought had a finish that smeared when wet -- leaving some navy blue on paper towels used to dry them after I washed the blades, and navy blue on my hands too. I emailed Liquitex to tell them about this, and they are looking into it. They sent me replacements; the handles on the new ones are fine. No smears! So if you get any with handles that smear when wet, do return them and ask for an exchange. They're not all like that.

What?! Handle paint or dye comes off on hands.
I like the #13 knife a great deal as far as the shape, size and blade go, but am startled to see that in cleanup, the paint or dye on the handle comes off on my hands and on the paper towel. It's not a deal-breaker, but I wish I'd found a similar painting knife with a natural wood handle and plain varnish. I'd expect better from Liquitex.

The only knives I use!

Great feel, excellent ergonomic handle! The price can't be beat for this quality!
Great palette knives.
from Asheville, NC
I have one small diamond shaped knife for mixing paint on the palette, and a big triangle shaped one for mixing a tube's worth of dry pigment with oil when making paint. Both are comfortable to hold and very durable. I expect them to last just about forever. They come in lots of shapes so if I need more knives for other purposes I'll probably look at these first. The only small gripe is that paint can be hard to clean out of the small gap between the handle and the metal of the knife. Otherwise they're very easy to wipe clean.

I started using brushes to create my paintings, which provide a more smooth and detailed texture but one can also achieve the same with a painting knife with much practice and utilizing techniques properly. Since I'm a novice at oil painting and elected the Liquitex products based on other reviews, I must agree that this product has helped create some beautiful paintings without the use of cleaning solutions.
