Comments about Liquitex Acrylic Gessos:
I've been using Liquitex Gessos for 25 years. Guaranteed top quality. I do some paintings on plywood and I need to lay down a gesso so the wood doesn't drink up my paint. Also, I like to have the wood design showing as opposed to using a white or black gesso that would cover it up.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Liquitex Clear Gesso

This Gesso is used primarily as a primer surface, it's clarity enables me to use different fabrics as canvas and utilize some of the prints and designs underneath. Being clear also can create layers in the work however with out care, it can become cloudy.

I have used this product for 20 years with outstanding results. Over the years, I have experimented with many other brands, but finally decided it was a waste of money and time.Liquitex gesso is of the finest quality available. It is consistent, offers great coverage, hiding ability, viscosity, & tooth. I have used this in my art classes exclusively for the past 5 years.
This Clear Gesso Is Amazing

This Liquitex clear gesso is amazing. I've never used clear gesso before. I got this for mixed media work. It's excellent. The gesso dries quickly, covers well, and is virtually clear (slightly cloudy) when dry. It has a slight tooth to it. I've used it with watercolor, pencils, oil paint, acrylic paint, and watercolor. It works well with everything. After using this product I'm not going back to standard gesso.
I have used Liquitex Gesso for some time.

"Disappointing for the price"
By Sabath Dauber
from Los Angeles, CA
This gesso lives up to its name, i.e., super heavy. It is VERY thick, but on the label it says, "Thin only with another gesso." This means I have to buy a gesso of thin consistency in order to dilute the Liquitex. That's an added expense I could do without. Also, I find the Liquitex creates a very slippery surface and since the label also says, "Do not sand", this gesso does not provide enough "tooth" to suit me. The Blick Artists' White Gesso is superior and more reasonably priced.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Liquitex Professional Gesso-White
from Santa Fe, NM
I recently switched from watercolor painting to acrylic painting. I do a lot of dot painting and so I used black gesso for the base. Not knowing any better, I initially used a cheap bargain brand gesso. But despite multiple coats (7) on canvas, it was like I'd only used one or two coats. Then I ordered Liquitex gesso and after three coats and a light sanding with P 320 grit wet sandpaper, I had a surface that was as smooth as I could have hoped for.Good gesso really makes a difference. It's a joy to work with and you can thin it a bit with water for warmer dryer climates like Santa Fe. It's not as expensive as Golden but it's not cheap either.
