This is the answer to many artists’ requests for an easy-to-apply, archival spray varnish with UV protection. Water-resistant UV protection can be sprayed over oil, tempera, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, pastel, oil pastel, photo prints (especially glossy photos), and between layers of airbrush applications.
Composed of a pure acrylic polymer containing a highly effective UV absorber, UV Protect is lightfast, age-resistant, and non-yellowing. The ultraviolet protection enhances the lightfastness of the underlying layers, and this protection increases with each additional layer of varnish that is applied. Other features include good adhesion, abrasion resistance, and hardness.
UV Protect is fast drying, easy to work with, colorless, and dries perfectly clear. Works treated with UV Protect can be overpainted after drying. Apply as many fine layers as required to achieve the desired surface. The varnish layer can also be removed or cleaned using solvents. Final sealing of UV Protect increases color intensity and can result in a slight change in color tone.
The sophisticated spray technology used in these aerosol cans allows for application of extremely fine layers with no accumulation of droplets.
UV Protect exudes substantially less noxious fumes when wet as compared to many similar products. The solvent odor dissipates quickly and no smell can be detected after the product dries. This product contains no chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).
Yields a lustrous protective film. It is especially well suited for use with Lascaux acrylic paints, other brands of acrylic paints, oil paints, as well as oil pastels. Use also on inkjet prints and photos on all supports. When using on water-soluble paints or on paintings with thin paint layers, it is recommended that a suitability test be carried out before widespread use.
Yields a matte protective film. It is well suited for all Lascaux color ranges and for gouache, drawings, oil, tempera, watercolor, acrylic, and oil pastel paintings. A pretest is recommended before using this product on inkjets, as it has limited suitability for such prints.
Use this product to achieve a semi-matte protective film. It is well suited for all Lascaux color ranges. Use it to protect acrylic, oil, tempera, and pastel paintings, drawings, watercolors, and inkjet prints on virtually all papers and other supports.

Favorite finish spray
from Kansas City,mo
Comments about Lascaux UV Protect:
I varnish just about every medium I work with using this spray. It's also the only thing I've found to seal chalkboard art in one area while still resisting water from washes in writable areas without any spotting or cloudiness
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I am very disappointed in this product. I purchased it to spray a vintage poster that would be hanging (in a frame)in a room with a large picture window. Luckily, I tested it first on some black foam core. Like another reviewer, the first spray left an opaque white residue. After that, it left a *very* visible, dusty film. When touched, I made dark finger prints and could feel the residue on my fingers. Definitely not usable on dark, or solid colours. Perhaps it could be used on white, or multi coloured projects, but I don't know if it's worth the risk. I purchased Lascaux after reading reviews on the superior quality of this particular product. A waste of money. I do not recommend.

can ruin your drawing
from Brooklyn, NY
This item could get 5 stars for when it works well. But occasionally, it sprays white spots. I haven't figured out why it happens and had already few drawings ruined but, as crazy as this can sound, I kept buying it because when it worked well I got exactly the type of Matt surface I was looking for. This until this morning when it ruined my drawing 70"x48" (I let you imagine how long it took to make it). I am attaching a picture so you can see what I mean when I say that it can unexpectedly spray white spots. This was just a test and not my final drawing. Also, it smell very bad, and it is hazardous, but I have never found a good fixative which it isn't bad for our health and for the environment.

Excellent for Scratchboard
from Northern CA
This product was recommended by another scratchboard artist. I use the Semi-Matte spray on black scratchboards and have been very pleased with the way it sprays and how it looks when dry. I frame my scratchboards without glass, so I use 4 coats on each board, turning the board 90 degrees for each coat (allowing half an hour to an hour for drying in between coats).I would give this 5 stars, but the smell is really nasty and it lingers. It smells like extra-strong nail polish. Definitely use it with plenty of ventilation! It's also pricey, and even though I select "overpriced", it's worth it for the even spray it provides. I've used other brands, but the spray can be inconsistent and uneven. I've gone through a number of cans now, and the product and spray pattern has remained consistent.

Lascaux quality. Really like.
from Van Nuys, CA
I use the product as a final clear coat over my acrylic paintings that I've already coated with Gloss polymer medium. It evens out the gloss and gives an oil like luster to my art.

The best one I tried but the price!
By The Bull
from New Jersey
This was the best one I tried and it worked great on all mediums. This used to be sold in 300ml cans that cut the cost a bit; now I see only 400ml, but it's worth it. The price forces me to use it sparingly. Actually, for most projects, I like the Krylon UV-matte or gloss, which is a good, all-around backup and much cheaper. Thank you!
