The Long Point Pencil Sharpener by Kum creates a perfect pencil point in two steps, first sharpening the wood casing and then precision-sharpening the graphite point.
Ideal for sharpening both standard pencils and draftsman's pencils, the sharpener features two 8 mm holes, two steel blades, an automatic brake that prevents oversharpening, and a translucent, hinged plastic lid that lets you see when the shavings receptacle is full. Two replacement blades are also included.

Brilliant, with one major issue...
from New York, NY
Comments about Kum Long Point Pencil Sharpener:
I've purchased 5 or 6 of these sharpeners through Blick now, and they all have the same issue, eventually, and break. Now, if the cradle portion of the sharpener (and by that I mean the part directly around and holding the blades) were metal, it would not keep breaking as it does. But, as it's plastic, it keeps cracking, sooner or later...and at this point, having gone through more than a few, it's just unacceptable. I can't keep throwing my money away, even though this is one of the best sharpeners I've ever used. I'd pay double for something made of all metal but sharpened like this...so it wouldn't break.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Great Sharpener for Any Pencil!
from St. Louis, MO
I like to sketch with Prismacolor colored pencils and col-erase pencils. This sharpener is great at shaping the lead to a nice point without causing breakage. The first slot will remove the wood casing to expose the lead, while the second slot will gently sharpen the lead. The blades seem nice and are also replaceable. It has a cover to catch pencil shavings if you're on the go, but it fills up quickly and I would recommend emptying it out before storing it in a pencil case or a bag or you'll end up with shavings and bits of lead in your storage bag.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

i'm giddy over this sharpener!
from new york city
when i first tried this sharpener i was skeptical after taking the pencil out of the first sharpener - i mean, all it had done was expose a huge amount of graphite and not made it particularly sharp. but then i tried it in the next sharpener! oh man! this little device produces the most wonderfully perfect sharpened pencil tip! i mean, a thing of beauty!my only complaint is that the shavings container is just as awful as others have mentioned - but at least it opens up easily so you can discard them often.

I had such high hopes

I bought these because my instructor recommended them for sharpening Faber Castell polychromos pencils but so far I haven't had good results and can't get sharp points on my pencils. Maybe it's user error, but how many ways can I mess up using a sharpener? I wish I hadn't bought 2. I ended up going back to my Prismacolor and Bosley electronic sharpeners. The price at Blick was much better than other stores locally and online.
Merchant response: The Kum Long Point Pencil Sharpener is designed for pencils with standard diameter cores. Because of the Polychromos pencils' thicker cores, if you do use this sharpener successfully, the point will be very excessively long and prone to breakage. For assistance in choosing among the sharpeners we offer, we hope you'll reach out to our Product Information Team. I purchased this so that my colored pencils would sharpen without a flaw. I was surprised when I opened it to find that it was a two part sharpening process. The pencils were sharpened perfectly with no breaks!! The only thing is, you need to open the plastic and sharpen over a trash can. The little container doesn't hold enough shavings for one pencil even (a new unsharpened pencil that is.) But I didn't mind. I will for sure purchase more of this!
The best pencil sharpener!

Such a smart tool! First sharpen the wood off of your pencil from the sharpener located on the left, then insert your pencil to trim the color or lead to a lovely tip! Takes no time at all and I just love a well sharpened pencil! Goes with me everywhere!
best for colored pencils!

I started taking a colored pencil class and this sharpener was recommended by the instructor. I love it for colored pencils and Dick Blick has the best price:)
