Gray haze and chunks of ?
from Saint Paul MN
Comments about Krylon #1311 Matte Finish:
I have used this product in the past with passable results. This time however, after following the labeling instructions Shake well, dust free environment, correct temperature, and ventilation, I sprayed on a thin first coat as recommended. When I returned 30 min. later there was a gray haze over my entire painting. It did wipe off with minimal effort and the varnish underneath seamed unaffected. As I began spraying on the second coat the varnish came out of the can with the appearance of gray primer paint. The can was also spitting white chunks of material that protruded through the surface of this gray varnish. I was able to minimize the chunkiness but not without sustaining damage to the painting underneath. This will never happen to me again as I won't risk destroying days of work on the chance that Krylon products will operate correctly."Caveat Emptor"
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: We are sorry to hear about the difficulties you experienced using this finish. Many factors, such as relative humidity, can affect the opacity of the finish layer. It may appear cloudy until it has completely dried. We recommend trying this, and any other finishes, on a sample piece prior to using on final projects. Our team of Product Experts is available to answer any of your product questions and can be reached at 1.800.933.2542.

I handpaint photographs and need to seal them with some kind of protectant. I've tried Golden and Liquitex as well as Krylon. The liquitex really has the best "liquidy" finishing look to it, but it splatters too easily no matter how much I shake it first. Similar thing with the Golden sprays. So I always come back to Krylon's matte finish because it works.

I use Krylon #1311matt finish on all my art except ink. Have used for a number of years. It has been an invaluable aid in eliminating shine. A must have for any artist.

Best Flat Finish spray I've found!
from California, USA
I use nothing but this spray to coat my artwork. I mostly use it to topcoat watercolors, color pencils and other media, when I need to protect the finish but not add any sheen, but I've also used it on canvas. It works great, easy to apply, and it never clogs. Please do not use this indoors if you love your lungs!
