I bought this product mainly for the use of charcoals. It did fine with my charcoal drawings. I was in a pinch and was out of my normal fixative that I use for my pastel drawings so I use this and now I am regretting my decision. It totally flattened the image. Any highlights and contrasting features have disappeared. It left an undesirable finish on the paper and I am now reworking the entire drawing. The freshness of my original work has disappear to a now overworked image and am quite disappoint in what was a piece of work I was proud of.

Highly toxic. I used very little and could not tolerate the chemical odor, putting the artwork far from my home to dry overnight outside, which caused it to buckle.
Beware: those who have asthma.

I used this product on my pastel/watercolor pencil drawing and it utterly ruined it. I sprayed a light coat and instead of just protecting it the light colors faded and disappeared. It left a shiny finish and just ruined my beautiful drawing. I'm really upset as I spent hours on it. This product not for pastels.

Krylon is suitable for working with charcoals and graphite but i'm sorry to say beware when working with pastels.I did a pastel painting on black paper and to my unhappy surprise it totally faded out especially the light tones. I know how to use fixatives and was very upset at the results.I had to rework my painting again to bring back the color. I am still trying to find a fixative that will work on pastels.Think I may try the hairspray trick.

I've been using this for over ten years on charcoal and other related materials, and have never had a problem. Says what it does and does what it says. Stick with a winner, this fixative works. Note this is a 'matte' type fixer, and its workable properties are excellent.

A really handy tool to use for making sure your drawings are non smudge-able. However, do not use too much or else it'll come out shiny. I used it inbetween my layers of drawings and I end up using way more than I should.

Another thing to keep in mind is that it will affect your pastel drawings greatly, so keep in mind when you do spray your pastel drawings. It'll look rougher than it should and affect the area that have the least amount of pastel powder and make it look really weird. Hence why I got heavy-handed when it comes to pastel drawings.

We use this product to protect our survey drawings which are printed on mylar. This keeps our drawing from smudging. The mylar drawings are placed in our permanent files.

This product works O.K. for student art work. It does not keep charcoal from smudging if touched roughly but it is better than nothing. Product not on the same level as some of the other name brands that are more expensive, but again, good things cost money. As a friendly reminder: Use only in an outdoor location, away from people and animals.

I use this on my graphite and charcoal drawings, it keeps the work from smearing between layers and preserves the work once I'm finished. It's easy to draw over it and make changes. The only downside is the smell, I have to leave the room and hold my breath to spray it, and the fumes persist for a while. It's a minor drawback though, not much to worry about if you have ventilation.

It seems to do the job, put I sprayed my paintings outside and then brought them onto the screen porch with the door to the house open. Wow, did those fumes emanate throughout the house. Had to close the door for a day.

I will use the product, but I will have to keep the paintings outdoors for a day or two before bringing them in. So, I have to wait on the weather.
