Technical pens were the mainstay of the designer and illustrator's craft before the development of computer graphics. Now, many artists and design professionals are rediscovering the technical pen because its handiwork, in expert hands, stands out almost magically against the bland precision of computer rendered graphics.
Dependability and high performance make Rapidograph technical pens the first choice among artists, designers, drafters, architects, and hobbyists. Rapidograph pens provide uninterrupted, productive drawing time.
Each Rapidograph pen has a white plastic barrel with a refillable ink reservoir (pens do not come filled with ink), and a color-coded cap and point section. The double-seal cap is air-tight to keep the point from drying out.
Each pen is identified by a standard point size or by its line width expressed in millimeters. (Point sizes do not correspond to points in the point/pica system of typographic measure.) Replacement point sections are available for all pens.
For optimum performance, use with Koh-I-Noor Ultradraw Waterproof Ink or Trans-Mix Media Brilliant Ink.
7-Pen Slim Pack Set

Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph Pens

Comments about Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph Pens:
I was first introduced to these pens when I was in a college drawing class. They have consistent stroke and if one takes care of them will last a very long time.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pens are good, the ink is not waterproof.
from Taos, NM
The pens are very good -- except the 3x0 (.25) doesn't flow very well & is a bit scratchy. I wish I had more information about the sizing before buying -- my fault for not researching more -- but it would be simple to put in 'smallest to biggest' in the listing.I did have a problem with the ink that comes with the set. I was drawing & black & white & then wanted to use a diluted wash. It is not waterproof! It would run, get on hands even after drying for a day or so. When a wash was applied it smeared -- very frustrating!
Disappointed in Koh-I-Noor Pen!!!
By Aviation Artist
I am a professional artist and have used this brand for 30 plus years and the pens can last over 5 years each, even with daily use for HOURS. I have used the 3x0 for sooooo many years and have not had an issue. This new pen lasted ONE DAY. The small piece of metal that extends beyond the point BENT. I think that Koh-I-Noor has replaced this piece with an inferior quality piece of metal that bends easily. Luckily, I had an old pen that I could take the small metal piece that goes inside the pen and was able to replace it. I am TERRIBLY DISAPPOINTED in Koh-I-Noor because I KNOW it was just to cut corners and save money, thereby giving the customer an inferior product. I will definitely NEVER order from this company again because obviously money means more than QUALITY.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Koh-I-Noor Pens are the Best
By TW Cowboy
from Chillicothe, Ohio
I have used Koh-i-Noor rapidograph pens for over 15 years. I have tried others, but find none to compare to the performance of the Koh-i-noor pen.
Being a retired illustrator, I've used these Koh-I- Noor Rapidograph pens for many years. They give a constant very sharp line suitable for photography. If you want the best illustration, use the best pens for a great end product.
They are the best overall
from Austin TX
These pens leave beautiful lines. Each nib size has its own personality and requires a little different handling (smaller ones can get scratchy, bigger ones can be uneven). But that's easy to figure out. I've been using these pens for decades without any desire to try anything else. They make lovely pen-and-ink drawings and outlines for colored pencil work too. Very highly recommended.
Points were no good
I have used Radiograph pens for over 45 years. I ordered #0 and #1 points and the needle in the points were too long causing the points to not give me a nice clean fine line. All five of the points were like this. I took them back to the store in downtown Chicago and the manager went through the points he had and I took one of each point size and returned the ones I ordered. The new ones were better. Is Rapidograph using a different pen point supplier? This is problematic.
Merchant response: We apologize for the issue you had with these points, and we're glad you took the time to bring this issue to our attention so we can look into it further. If there's anything else we can do to assist you, please let us know!
Almost better than nothing.
from Palm Coast, FL
Unlike me, heed the advice of others and save yourself a small fortune by NOT buying these Koh-I-Noor technical pens! I do quite a few ink drawings with crow quill and brush, and bought the 6x0, 3x0, 0 and 1 pens in search of a more consistent, finer line in my work. I must say they were a big disappointment. The 6x0 and 3x0 clogged easily due to their small tube diameters and the small agitator filament within the tube was easily dislodged in the cleaning process, rendering the pen(s) useless. This, I suspect, is an inherent limitation of this whole "metal filament ink agitator in tube" design at these small sizes that cannot be avoided... regardless of ink type. The 0, and 1 size pens are still working... for now!!! If you need a super-fine line, go with the disposable Pelikan Techno-liners or even a few Copic multiliners instead. These old Koh-I-Noor's have had their day in the sun in my opinion.

Quality has suffered the past few years
This review applies to the pens with the 00 nib only. The other sizes may be fine. Having used the 00 version of this pen on and off for 45 years for both line and stippled ink drawings, I recently noticed that the stippled dot and the line ends were becoming undefined, which for my art, is disastrous. A close examination revealed that the center wire was longer than usual, causing ink to flow before the tip fully engaged the paper, and the ink to continue flowing while the nib was removed from the paper. These "flares" gave the impression of being viewed with uncorrected astigmatic vision. My stippled art lost contrast. I followed up with the manufacturer, who sent handmade replacement nibs. Unfortunately, the replacement nibs were the same. Older pens (older than 2-3 years) that I have do not exhibit the excessively long center wire and operate satisfactorily. Since Koh-i-Noor USA was unable to resolve this issue, I shall have to use Rotring or Faber-Castell pens instead, which, unfortunately, are not available from Blick.
