This is a great, dependable, fun little drawing pen!
from Santa Rosa, CA
I've recommended this pen to my college students because I find it a pleasure to use sketching or for more detailed pen & ink work. I stopped recommending expensive technical pens years ago because they're fussy, drying out too quickly, and constantly needing cleaning in a dry, hot climate. (Technical pens are just not worth using in a dry hot climate!) The Pigma Micron are junky! The Micron lines are not clean, they bleed on drawing pad papers, and dry out to quickly. The Koh-I-Noor Nexus Studio pen has a clean line, lasts a very long time (I've been using this pen for about six years!), and it's never leaked like other drawing pens have on occasion. A technical pen still has a superior line, but this one is really good! It's not fussy, and you can sketch with it, unlike a "R" technical pen that is held differently or the ink flows less freely. This pen is a whole lot cheaper, and never needs cleaning or broken needle points replaced!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Not what I expected
from Pittsburgh Area
Ordered Graphite and Payne's Gray Nexus pens thinking I would receive two different shades of gray however there is no discernable difference between the two colors of ink.Cannot get a clean uniform line with these pens, lines are ragged and uneven. If you want a freeform line then you might like these pens however I need a consistent line and these pens do not meet my requirements.

Worst Pens Ever
Graphite and Payne's Gray pens. Tried to use them for line drawings. There is nothing "velvety" about these pens. Inconsistent, skippy, blobby line quality. Line starts darker, fades out, get darker again, then lighter, globs, then disappears completely if you are drawing a really long line. Maybe they'd be good for short, crosshatch work. Line is very fine. They just don't write/draw well at all. It's quite difficult to tell the difference between these two grays unless you are under glaringly bright light.

Koh-I-Noor usually makes great products, but these are simply awful. The ink is too watery, which causes the lines to bleed even on very heavily sized paper. Line quality is very scratchy and very similar to disposable pens sold in bulk at grocery stores, etc. I bought one of these to try, but found that I just couldn't use it for anything other than writing notes, etc. Definitely not recommended for drawing.Note: I've only used the black ink version, so the color options might be a different story.

By Mr. Ink
These pens are great; however, they are inconsistently produced from the manufacturer. Pros: Colors are superb and varied, design is unique and intriguing, good weight, has intrinsic quality in writingCons: Many are dead on arrival from several orders, seemingly random and short lifespan, On writing quality and flow: each color has a different consistency ink; ebony has the most flow, almost too much in comparison to the others. I believe one of the darker sepia colors is also very juicy. Other colors like the ochres, and red sepia write much thinner, still giving sufficient ink. They all will smudge and take some time to dry (especially on moleskine). Overall, these variations make the pens interesting with different qualities, however I don't understand why Koh-I-noor cannot produce flow consistently. This gets to my second point on consistency: why do some of the same color last 10 sheets of papers, and others 100? I can understand why they run short lives overall as they let loose on the ink, but something is clearly wrong with the design that's causing 50% of them to be DOA or die after a few lines. I'm looking at NINE dead nexus pens on my shelf here, and my last are on their ends. (Please keep in mind I've only had about 15 of these pens; I may be getting bad batches, however other reviews here have made me think otherwise)That being said, the ones that work are my top go-to pens, Try a few and see what you think - Blick is awesome at replacing DOA's if it may be the case.KOH-I-NOR : address the production quality/consistency and I'll take a crate of red ochre, please.

Love/ Hate relationship
By Mr. Maki
It's a Love / Hate relationship.I love how they write and flow. The colors are awesome and they are waterproof so you can use watercolor over them. They are a great pen for pencil, pen and watercolor.I hate that they bleed, bubble and just plain stop working!I have a set of nine pens and four are dead within two months :(btw: the Pilot P-700 is one of the best all around pens that I have come to know
