Storage is easy! The Klopfenstein Collegiate Easel folds to a compact 5" (13 cm) thick.
Optional Easel Tray
Heavy-duty 14-gauge steel tray keeps your supplies easily accessible. It attaches instantly and securely to your Klopfentein easel. No assembly is required. Measures 1½"H × 20"L × 4"W (4 cm × 51 cm × 10 cm).

Light weight but solid.

Comments about Klopfenstein Collegiate Steel Easel:
Great construction and a solid platform. There are only 3 levers to adjust for tightness so it's easy to setup or put away. Reminds me of the easels I used at college: basic and built to last 100 years.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have used "Best" wooden easel twice for school easels and they do not hold up. I decided to try this easel because it was steel. I was very happy with the quality and construction. These should last for years. The only potential issue could be students loosing the fasteners. They are also heavy.

My Favorite Easel, not for everyone.
from Toledo, Ohio
I teach with this easel and have seen it in two different schools across the U.S. It folds up wonderfully, and is sturdy enough to handle incredible weight. It's width is a bit skinny, however, and two easels are better than one for overly wide paintings. One drawback about the easel is that you really have to take care when loosening and adjusting the top and bottom bars. Students/professionals that are use to wooden easels might be caught off guard by it suddenly dropping. Basically, when tight, it either grips the steel or it doesn't, there is no 'loose' in between area when tightening, so it requires a firm hand.As well, I bought several 'C' clamps to fasten my stretchers to the bar because it doesn't grip the painting supports well. Unbraced panels have a tendency to fly off or fall off when students get in the moment. I have a friend who absolutely hates this easel, but if I had the money I would buy 3 or 4 of them. So you can see it's not for everyone. However, it's ability to fold up and tuck away is wonderful, and I can't see the thing ever wearing out with how heavy and solid the gauge of steel is used here. (These easels are significantly heavy for their size.) The alternative H-frame easel made by Klopfenstein, the Spectrum KS100, I find cumbersome and ineffective with the adjusting squeeze mechanism on the bottom--I've also seen it used in several different classrooms and schools. And the one with several hooks on the bottom, the PE 100, is very rarely used and sits in the corner.
Stable, durable, value.

I've used this easel for several years and am confident it will last forever. Heavy steel construction allows for large canvases and simple design makes adjustments easy. Really great product, I'm very satisfied.
