They REALLY need to hire someone to write a decent manual

Comments about Jullian Paris Jullian Rexy Watercolor Easel:
Seriously a web address to a PDF (per language) with mention of 1) the snaps and 2) decent, clear pictures would be advisable. I received my easel today and futzed with it for about 20-min before I gave up. I will call the 800 line (which I found in response to other reviews here) tomorrow. As far as I can tell, the middle leg adjusts high enough only to be barely useable for someone my height, and I'm only 5'2". I haven't even tried to attach the paint box accessory yet. I'll only bother if I decide to keep this thing.Take a look at the middle leg. It measures 43.5" from the floor to the center of the top most bolt that attaches it. Is this RIGHT?
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Merchant response: Thank you for reaching out! We apologize for the issues you had setting up this easel. In looking at the photo you posted, it's evident that there's one more extension you can make to the back leg with the middle wing nut so that the back leg will have 4 total segments. This will put the top of the "box" part of the easel at about 44" from the floor, with the back leg being about 58" long. One of our Product Specialists will be following up via email to further assist you.

the perfect easel
By beginning artist
Instructions need to be more detailed

I've been an artist for years. but never ventured into field painting. The problem with this product is with the instructions. It makes NO mention of the metal snaps on the sides of the legs and at the base of the box area. As you might guess I bent one of the metal snaps, however the easel is still usable and quality made at a good price.

I ordered the paint box accessory, in fact, I accidentally ordered two. I was headed for a workshop in Vermont and I have an aluminum watercolor easel but couldn't see how I could use my Pikes Palette with it.. I called Blick for a consult and they suggested I try the paint box accessory. It came in time for me to pack, so I didn't try it out before I left. I'm convinced it will work, but being a mechanical idiot, I couldn't figure it out without help. It is a nice product, well worth the money even if I use it for storage. When the second one came, I refused delivery and it went back to Blick. Even tho I paid for it through a payment service, Blick gave me credit.

Lightweight and Versatile
By Marsha the Animal Mom

I'm a watercolor artist who loves painting en plein air, and going to workshops in distant places, so finding a good portable easel has always been a major priority for me. In 25 years of painting, I've gone through way too many of them: French easels, which are becoming too heavy for me, and tripod based systems, which, by the time I pull all the gear together, are usually too heavy, too complicated to set up, and won't handle a half-sheet. Ever hopeful of finding the perfect easel, I decided to try this little gem and am delighted with it. It's very well thought out, both for the oil painter and watercolor artist, just requiring a re-positioning of the legs to convert from one to the other. The angle of the paper support is controlled by lengthening and shortening the legs, not sliding the usual braces up and down. Refreshingly direct and sturdy. There are few moving parts, but to be honest I had a hard time setting it up initially, and the instructions weren't as helpful as just looking at the finished photo. Once I figured it out, it was a snap. Lengthening and shortening the legs is a bit of a struggle, as they're quite tight, but I think that will improve over time. And the one bolt that holds the support arm for canvas/paper isn't any stronger than they usually are on the French easels - hence the four stars. At the moment it's serving as a very satisfactory table easel on my workstation, but it's clearly going to be easy to set up and carry on outdoor adventures. With the box, which is good for paints and short brushes, the whole thing weighs about 8 lbs - all I need to add is paints, brushes, and water. Well, and paper. I expect this easel to be a handy companion for years to come.

Very lightweight...perfect for travel
This easel positions the watercolor paper at about a 20 degree incline from horizontal, the perfect pitch. The carrying shape of the easel makes it great for walking. I plan to take it as a carry on on my next flight to Europe. Great.[The accessory box that can be ordered separately is great IF you modify its attachment to the easel by drilling 2 small holes and attaching it with wing nuts/bolts. How to do this should be obvious once the easel and box are in position. Otherwise the accessory box is unstable . With the modification, the box supports watercontainer, paints and brushes. It also fits in the carry case for the easel].

NIce, portable, stable
By Plein Air Pro

I've had this easel for about 2 years now. It took a few tries to set it up right but now it has become intuitive for me. I use it for both oil and watercolor painting, indoors and out. While not sturdy enough to sit on, it handles very well for me. Common sense and a little preparation will ensure that it doesn't blow over or wobble. The carrying bag is very nice. I also bought the paint box but don't use it as is doesn't attach that securely to the legs. The little palette is nice though. Overall I like this easel and would recommend it for those artists who have enough sense on how to use something lightweight and portable without expecting it to be something it isn't.

This easel is so unsteady when used that brush strokes with a watercolor brush cause it to shake. I set it up indoors and it was unstable. Outdoors it's about as stable as a new born fawn. Any little breeze and it will tip over. The box that attaches to the easel is in the way and bumped by your legs when painting. It is a nice looking product; however, there are some much better options.

Took me a few minutes to correlate the enclosed instructions to the item, but this easel is easy to set up/break down once you've done it once. It's VERY portable and adaptable: many configurations are possible for horizontal orientation, vertical, or anything in between. Good quality, nice carrying case; I'd recommend it to anyone (especially watercolorists) who needs a compact easel for outdoors or travel. A bonus: my portable camp-stool (purchased separately) fits in the zippered side pocket of the carrying case!
