These supplies are specially formulated to obtain the best results with Jacquard Procion MX Fiber Reactive Dyes.
Soda Ash is a mild alkali dye fixer necessary for activating and setting Jacquard Procion MX Fiber Reactive Dyes. It can be used as a pre-soak before dyeing, mixed directly with dye for immersion dyeing, or added to the dyebath in the washing machine. It can also be used with Synthrapol to remove sizings, oils, and waxes when prewashing.
A derivative of seaweed, Sodium Alginate is the best thickener for use with Jacquard Procion MX Fiber Reactive Dyes. Used to control spreading when painting or screen printing, it can be safely applied to cotton or other cellulose fibers.
Synthrapol is an industrial strength, neutral detergent created especially for fabric dyeing. Used as a prewash or afterwash, it helps prevent backstaining by keeping loose dye particles in suspension. It also works well as a wetting agent for wool and other hard-to-wet fibers. For marbling, it can be added directly to colors to facilitate spreading.
Best used for direct dye applications such as tie dyeing and hand painting, Urea slows the drying process, thus yielding deeper shades by allowing more time for the dye to react with the fiber. It is often used in combination with Sodium Alginate.

soda ash, synthrapol, Urea and Procion
By craft mistress
i had a synthetic and natural fiber (blend) pair of tan pants that were stained with printer ink dye. i chose to dye the synthetic and natural fibers seperatly. first the synthetic were dyed with the procion dye using soda ash and synthrapol as a prewash. I dyed the fabric cold in a bucket with urea, procion dye and soda ash was added for the last 50 min of dying. i rinsed the fabric and washed it with synthrapol. my fabric took on a charcoal color (keep in mind this is tan partly synthetic pants with a black dye). they never leaked dye or faded in color after 2 washes with synthrapol. then i dyed them with black rit dye for cotton, and followed up with another synthrapol wash. they are a beautiful dark charcoal, you cannot see the ink stains and they never once lost color or leaked dye off onto other clothes in the wash. i feel this method of dying is very predictable and the materials offered ie: urea, soda ash, synthrapol and Procion dye are quality and made the difference.

I used numerous colors for my tapestry project i was doing. I tie dyed using the ice method on cotton, left it for 24 hours rinsed it out and washed it and dried it. When i pulled it out of the dryer and looked at it i was amazed at how wonderful the colors had turned out. They were bright and so really added something wonderful to my tapestry i will forever buy these products.

After checking out several sites and local stores, this was the best price I found for this amount of soda ash.
