Updating my review
Comments about Iwata Art Mask Frisk Film:
I'm updating my review of this product because I think it deserves some clarification. I originally used Art Mask to crisp up some line work on an oil on canvas - and that was just a dumb idea on my part. Feasible, but dumb. This film obviously does not do it's best with mediums that are not water based nor does it apply very well to textured surfaces. It does however do an amazing job with acrylic and spray applications and unlike a lot of brands of frisket film it can be marked with a pencil. I'm giving it five stars to try and cancel out my negative review, but I do think if in the future they made a version of this product that DID have paper backing - I would never have to buy frisket from another company again.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

No paper backing - basically just a big roll of tape
Not the best product for certain applications. What the description doesn't say is that this film comes on a roll without paper backing. In order to use it as a mask you have to stick it to your art surface, trace, peel it off, carefully trim and clip on a different surface (which has to be very clean), and then finally re-apply to your art surface. Due to this, it loses a lot of its tack, and sometimes in the process sticks to itself making it completely useless. Ultimately, it creates a lot of wasted time and frustration that could be fixed by just having a sheer paper backing.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: We apologize for the frustration you have experienced with this product. Films such as this allow you to place the film directly on your work, use a sharp craft knife to remove the areas where masking is not needed, apply your paint, then remove the film when you have finished. If you prefer a film with backing, our Product Experts would be happy to help you select one. Please give us a call at 1.800.933.2542, our team is available M-F from 8:00am to 5:30pmCST.
I am a watercolorist and this product fulfills all my masking needs. The adhesiveness is perfect and its semi-transparency allows for precise shape-cutting. Its as much a vital tool for my work as brushes and paint.

Cannot draw on it
from Los Angeles
When I purchased this product, there was no indication that there is no paper backing to draw on...it only has the film! It is useless to me.

Perfect with spray paint
from Brooklyn, NY
I use the product to mask off for spray painting on wood. The mask never peels from the surface when painting and is very easy to cut clean lines. I have tried many other competitive masks, but this is the best by far for what I do.

A great Product
from Arizona and Mexico
When used on water colour paper it is definitely the best, even with oils on canvas. Personally I would prefer if it was on a lined/square/ oval printed peel off paper that makes cutting so much easier. Definitely a product to recommend.
